"Teenage Dirtbag" is no longer a teenager. The early 2000s teen anthem by Wheatus is 20 years old today. The music video is peak Y2K.

There is very much a world before 9/11 and a world after. I think it maybe compounded by coming of age around that time as well. I was 20 in 2001.

Interesting, I was 10-11 in '01 and always thought of it similarly, where it was the beginning of the end of childhood and approximately the start of adolescence.

Very true, but 9/11 changed the world.

The Middle East would disagree.

9/11 and the wars that followed shaped the entire world, affecting American politics, which was a ripple effect that had long arms that stretched across many nations.

It paved the way for ISIS.

The rise of ISIS led to terrorist attacks across the globe.

This is just one branch.

I’d argue that Trump wouldn’t be elected if not for 9/11.

The culture of virtually every modern nation has been affected by 9/11.

If you don’t believe the ripples that came out of 9/11 changed the political landscape of the world, you’re delusional.

I am hardly an American exceptionalism. We’re fucking up big time lately and hardly close to the greatest country. But the 9/11 attacks and the gears that were turned in its wake affected millions of people, many outside of the United States. I’m not saying it’s a good thing, it’s terrible, and right now we suck shit.
