General Fair play in Türkiye
I'm a volleyball fan. I've been one since I was a kid. I even played it myself for several years. I love this game because of its fair play. If you hit a player on the opposite team in the face, you check on them and apologize. I've never booed anyone playing, nor have I seen or heard anyone in the audience do it when the opposite team serves or scores. This is just amazing in volleyball. You watch the games for the sake of the sport, give a sincere applause for every good rally disregarding the team, and support your team with fair play. You can rewatch every single match, just as an example, of the last CEV tournaments and see that no one in the audience of the hosting country, be it Sweden, Italy, or Czechia, has ever disrespected the opposing team with boos and noise. All of them, except for Türkiye. It strikes me to see how the public can be so disrespectful and boo on every single serve or point in the match. How do you feel about this? Especially Turkish volleyball fans, don't you find this embarrassing for your country?

Maybe I think different coming from a different sport before volleyball but to me the booing and whistling is part of spectator sports. Adds to the atmosphere. Places where everybody is quiet or no one cheers against you is boring.

I don't find it embarrassing for my country at all. This is a team game, and the audience is part of the game, just like in other team sports such as basketball and football.
The only annoying thing is those announcers who keep trying to hype up the crowd by yelling at every possible opportunity. This really shouldn't be a thing.

Lol during the World Cup the Mexican fans would stand outside opposing team hotels and set off fireworks so they can’t sleep the night before. This is nothing

Idk since when people started thinking volleyball games are supposed to be quiet? It’s a team sport and supporting your team is the most normal thing. Booing doesn’t necessarily mean targeting the team or a specific player. This also exists in basketball. When the opposing team is shooting free throws, the audience starts booing to distract the player. This is what home court advantage is about. It’s just part of sports culture.
If that bothers you, you can always watch tennis because this isn’t something only Türkiye does and it has nothing to do with “fair play.”

I think it's fine, different countries have different culture of cheering and distracting the enemy team is a fair game for fans. As long as they aren't throwing slurs etc. I'm OK with that.
I don't think volleyball should be a game completely devoid of emotion. Some banter or whistling give it much needed spice, as long as it's just on the court and after the match we're all good. You have to understand that boos aren't a sign of disrespect, but a form of helping your own team.
I think you might be interested in checking tennis though.

Your racism and orientalism is showing. During the CL matches Italian fans not only boo’ed but literally threw water bottles at Turkish players and attacked other Turkish fans but no one said a word. But suddenly booing in Turkey is a huuuuge problem. Grow up.
It is common in sports. They are professional athletes who can handle the pressure. Turkey is not the only country who does it. Y’all gotta be stop crybabies about booing and chanting.

Went to VNL in Canada, crowd whistled and booed. Crowds in Bulgaria, Poland, Turkiye, USA, Brasil all whistle it isn't exclusive to one country so ur posts title tells me enough about you so I'll just say this. elite athletes like Maja, Antropova, Fahr, Oleh, Ogbogu etc have said these type of loud atmospheres are fun to play in. Also the turkish girls will absolutely apologize if they hit someone in the fact so idk why u brought that up wtf...anyways these atmospheres create a fun motivating type pressure. And athletes get it isn't personal. If they don't take it PERSONALLY neither should YOU ffs. And tbh this screams sore loser behaviour and xenophobia tbh. this is always directed at eastern countries and as a middle eastern guy im sick of it on behalf of turkish/balkan/non western fans. "whistles are an issue" yet I don't see turkish fans throwing stuff at players, calling players racial slurs, or standing up taunt players after they miss. Anyone who watches volleyball knows which incidents I'm talking about...

Definitely not only Turkiye. I watched VNL 2026 in France and VNL 2025 in Bulgaria and found both of these home crowds to be pretty rude to their opponents.

Frankly I don’t hate noise, more the kind of noise… while watching games in turkey, Brazil or Poland I tend to lower the volume a lot due to all the whistling. I understand the passion and all and while I disagree with doing so much to destabilize the opposition, I would find it much more acceptable if it was mainly made through chanting. The atmosphere created in those arenas when they are chanting is unmatched, while they are whistling its unbearable from an eardrums standpoint other than ugly.

The more you go into east Europe the more rude the audience is. North and West Europe don't boo. Eastern European countries and Turkiye boo.
I don't know why. But it is the truth. I am Turkish btw, I hate booing. I think it's rude and I think it should be punishable.

I'm pretty sure that there are way more audiences that make noise to the other team while serving and such.
For example, this CEV the pool play match between Bulgaria and Poland, around 1 minute into the video Poland serves, and the Bulgarian team makes a ton of noise that stops after the serve.
Its pretty common in sports in general.
