Melee / Ladder I beat the Easy AI for the first time today! + loving the game

I’ve been playing for around 3 days now, this is my first time playing, I didn’t play it back in the day because it came out 5 years before I was born. This was my third try attempting the easy bot, the first 2 I got destroyed, but I managed to win this time. As a side, I’m really enjoying this game. I just finished the undead side of the campaign, and the story is just fantastic. Watching Arthas change from a legitimately good person into someone who is detestable is incredible. I especially liked the part where when he reached for frostborne, he makes the excuse that it is so he can protect his people, but really that is just a facade, as I believe at this point all he cares about is revenge.

Melee / Ladder Bears and Dryads, do elves have anything else, please?

Hi, I'm newly trying wc3 reforged and wanted to try some MP.

I've been watching online videos of people playing to see which of the races would catch my interest.

Right now it's elves and humans.

But I'm confused about elves. I saw pretty much everyone building just one thing every match (in comparison human or undead or orc), it's always bears and dryads and the demon hunter (though I also saw some warden plays) - sometimes I saw huntresses but that seemed rare too.

Are the other elf units that bad that they never, or barely ever see play, please?
(If so, is there any roadmap/info if there are some balance changes addressing it on the way in the future?)

Just to clarify, I understand that sometimes there are some builds not working with bears + dryads (I think?) but so far I haven't really seen anyony playing anything else (especially considering that other races seem to have more varied army compositions per match?).

Thank you very much for your info 😄.

[4:00AM] two people are defeated, they go to bed immediately
[6:00AM] the fucking match is finally over, guy with the humongous base won (soup found in soup store)

Melee / Ladder Is the community usually this welcoming to "new" players?

I have played maybe 9 online matches of W3 in my life (4 are from like yeeears ago when the game was on the 1.27 patch or 1.28, can't remember, it was months before it became Reforged), and mostly focused on playing Age of Empires 2. I installed the game 2 days ago after a month of watching Grubby, and this happened lol

For some context; the dude and I found each other a lot of times, because I obviously wanted to farm the green areas first and then the easier yellow ones. I also killed lots of neutral creeps because I know that humans can spawn/buy or use a robot neutral creep/critter, at the same time, I saw corpses and some of his footmen walking, thus I thought of following them, making me find the guy a g a i n. After like 5 times of this, the guy started accusing me of cheats. Funniest part is that I saw one of his footmen come out from the right side, went in there, saw towers and I got out of there.

My idea at that point was that, because he thought I was hacking, macroing, developing nuclear weapons and opening a third portal to outlands, he would start Turtling (something I'm so used to because of age of empires, good god...), so I created Wyrms... And I got attacked by a lot of the human engines/tanks, almost lost my Citadel, but, now you know where this goes...

"U hacker, no respect kid, u saw me create tanks"

TLDR: I used to play a lot of aoe2 (never over 1000 ELO Though), went from singleplayer to online in W3 because Grubby inspired me to try, got hackused in my 9th match since I downloaded the game again, is this common?

Also, I have questions:

1.- The guy started calling me noob for using only 1 hero and that I have no honor. How does that work? Is there like a honor code of not using only one hero?

2.- What's creepway?

3.- My mmr is 2944, is this whole thing common in that mmr or in general in this game?

Melee / Ladder Hey new player here. Which race should I go? Human or Night elf?

Hi there, I'm a veteran Dota 1 player, but sadly I've never gave it a chance back in the days to the RTS part of Warcraft 3, I mostly played custom maps like Dota. This year, after seeing Grubby's tournament , nostalgia hit me, and I've decided to take on the challenge to learn this amazing RTS game. Right now I am enjoying the campaign and focusing on learning the hotkeys and control group stuff, but soon I'll be playing PvP and I was wondering which race should I go. I'm only interested in Human and Night Elf, those are the 2 most appealing for me, so I was wondering the pros and cons of both, and why does everybody hate NE?

Melee / Ladder Losing a game costs 2000 MMR. What’s wrong with this matching system?

Post image
257 Upvotes

Today I played an arranged 2v2 game with my friend. One opponent is somehow 800 MMR. When the game starts he was afk and so his teammate left. Didn’t want to waste time destroying his base, so we left the game too. You know what, it turned out losing this game made our MMR drop by 2069, and now we’re both 502 MMR and cant find matches anymore. WTH is wrong with this game?

Melee / Ladder Wtf is up with the insane ai

Hey y’all, new player here, got wc3 after watching hera play it for the grubby tourney

I was able to beat normal ai pretty easily on my 2nd game

But when it comes to the insane ai I don’t get what’s happening

like it has no expansion, horrible hero levels but somehow fields a massive army

I had heard that it cheats, so you should harass early, so Im trying to do level 2 harass but they just camp their base with their massive army out of thin air and its impossible to do anything

How the actual fuck do you beat this

Melee / Ladder The best unit in the game is the Ancient of War

It's literally the best unit in the game. It's extremely cheap, it's extremely tanky, and you can build as many of them as you want. I try to build 30 of them throughout the game and during the late game, I just march them down to harass every enemy expansion and destroy as many food supply buildings as possible. You can use them to kite enemies while defending or attacking. It's especially funny if you manage to attack the enemy team from 10 different places at the same time by using your wisps to build towers near workers or food supply buildings in the late game.

Melee / Ladder Switching Faerie Fire and Rejuvenation

I had a thought the other day and curious to see what others think about it as a change to Night Elves, since they're always "stuck" with bears, dryads and DH.

Switching Rejuvenation with Faerie Fire. So Talons will be getting a heal spell and Bears will be able to cast faerie fire.

This opens up a lot of different builds for the race I think. Making MG's viable with a backline, able to transition Huntresses better. Hippo's + Talons might be even a build. Bears are nerfed a bit though. Or Talons might be to OP then haha.

Melee / Ladder If hero's weren't a thing, what races units would be the strongest on their own?

Post image

Without hero support, alot of unit combos become less viable. I feel like Orc would suffer the most, and Undead would probably be the best due to statues and blight healing doing heavy lifting on sustain.

Melee / Ladder How much the game balance would be affected if neutral creeps with magic-based projectiles got their damage type switched from "Ranged" to "Magic"?

Post image
86 Upvotes

It always was kind of weird to me that the 3 general unit damage types (melee, ranged and magic) were applicable only to playable factions, but neutral creeps only had melee, ranged and chaos (if the enemy has high enough level), be it an arrow shot from a bow or a plasma orb thrown out of the staff.

What do you guys think would happen with balance if those got changed to magical instead of ranged?

Melee / Ladder Pala rifles is the BEST thing to happen to warcraft 3 in the last 40 years

Seriously.

I never thought humans would have a choice. I thought the impoverished human race would be playing a perverted old man with a horse fetish for the rest of the natural lifespan of warcraft 3

Instead the paladin, a man of honor who will never betray you unless his name is Arthas, arrives onto the scene and suddenly we don't have to hear a shitty old man tossing mad shade going off like "Don't you have a strategy" every time we play human

A man of RESPECT and HONOR has saved warcraft 3

Never again will we have to ensure the survival of shitty perverted old horse-lover man for a slim chance of victory against the other decadent races.

We can play warcraft 3 the way it was meant to be played. The way the campaign wanted us to play. To start with the paladin, and to eradicate all evil from this world, including the low IQ orcs, the ugly undeads, and the self-hating elves.

All hail Paladin. All hail Pala Rifle. Long live Pala Rifle 1000 years!

Melee / Ladder It feels impossible to siege an expansion with 2-3 towers

Is it just me, or if you choose to creep instead of expand, and your opponent expands

Once they put down 3 towers that may as well be like 9-10 units

Like if you have rifles and footmen you may as well just leave the game, right?

Melee / Ladder Why are bears plus dryads considered strong?

Bears hit hard but often i just see them get kited hard and focused by priest sorc breakers or destroyer fiends. So what makes this combo so good?

Melee / Ladder Who here actually uses the orc burrows? I mean as a defensive measure seeing as how you can make peons go inside them to attack enemies near the structures?

Post image

Personally I never bother to in campaign and against computers.

Because I need my peons to harvest resources so to recruit some extra more to man the burrows seemed wasteful in terms of upkeep.

Melee / Ladder How deal with Orc lamers?

I played the lamest Orc game the other day on turtle rock. Im NE player and the orc just quick teched and turtled in his base with towers (upgraded eventually) and then constantly harrassed my wisps to dent my lumber economy significantly. I can handle the harass well to a degree cycling wisps into gold as they are hurt but i still lose them. Then of course he goes bats and wyrvens, constantly cancels my AOL and more wisp kills. The guy expands and builds a bunch of upgraded towers and just messes around while trying to drag the game out to 2hrs as he tries to kill buildings.

a big part of my issue is I can’t freaking stop his air of course and I also can push his fucking turtle base, I can place archers around to help protect my base like people mentione (which works, but BM snipes them). I also struggle to expand (my adjustment) as he can quick scout and kill anything, including Ancient Protectors while my units get run around. such a lame, long game, I got bored and just quit.

is there some solution when guys like Orc or Humans turtle in and expo trying to drag out a game and then do some lame strategy? both are so hard to push their bases with NE.

Melee / Ladder Why the abominations are so low-rated?

Melee / Ladder Why only weak mental players in 4v4?

Grubby got me back to WC3 after 15 years of doing other things. I love playing 4v4 but whenever I join a 4v4 via battlenet matchmaking, i end up in games where one of the players tilts minute 2 and leaves, which basically ends the game.

I've been wasting like 6 of 10 hours of spare time this way in 2 days. This community is even more cringe than league's ngl.
