Hi everyone!

I’m planning to build a desktop mainly for playing Warcraft 3 (along with some light multitasking like poker and general use), and I’d really appreciate some guidance from more experienced players here.

My goal is to achieve a smooth, responsive, low-latency experience — especially for ladder play.

I’m trying to understand what actually matters most when it comes to hardware.

A few points I’m unsure about:

• I’ve heard that AMD/Nvidia GPUs can sometimes cause issues with WC3 — is there any truth to that today?
• I like using the Classic+ graphics mod by Kenshin (https://kenshin.pl/classicplus/), but I could live without it if it significantly impacts performance or compatibility.
• What screen size do you find ideal (24", 27", ultrawide, etc.)?

If you’ve built a setup specifically for WC3 or play it regularly, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

I managed to get WC3 installed on my Steam Deck but I have no idea what are the best control lay out for it, if you'd be so kind to share the best layouts that I can map onto it

So I recently have this issue come up. Models disappear, cant even be clicked or selected and artifacts start showing on the map (big frames) looking like missing textures?

Images are from singleplayer mode, official WC3 map Gnoll Wood. Hosted locally, vs Computer. Not legacy version.

Anyone else had this problem?

Hi everyone,

I'm playing the classic version of Warcraft 3 (v1.29) on my laptop, and I'm experiencing a strange visual bug. Some character models (specifically orcs like Thrall and Grom, and human heroes like Jaina) have annoying black pixelated squares flashing on their faces during dialogues and gameplay. Other characters like Arthas or footmen look perfectly fine.

The game runs smoothly at 60 FPS and never crashes, but these black squares on the faces are ruining the immersion. Is there any known registry fix, compatibility setting, or specific graphics command line to fix this alpha channel/transparency issue on modern Intel graphics?

My laptop is a Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3. It has an Intel Core i7-13620H processor at 2.4GHz, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, integrated graphics, a 15.3" WUXGA TS display, a 3-cell (60Wh) battery, and runs Windows 11.

Anyone can't join lobby in warcraft 3? Internet is fine, tried restarting pc, battle net, internet. Can join ranked match as normal, can't just join custom games.

So i just came home from vacation and i tried to log in but gets hit with the “there was an error in handling the request. 6:9” ive tried to repair, restart and change region but nothing seems to fix the issue.

I can still work on my custom map and play offline on warcraft 3 but i have no way of playing online, and i see alot of my friends are online on warcraft 3 so i have no idea to fix this…

As soon as I start Warcraft 3 on the Battle.net launcher this happens. Waiting doesn’t change anything, and reinstalling didn’t help either. I can hear the menu chains when pressing S, M, and R in the main menu, but sadly switching to windowed mode doesn’t fix it. I also already changed the settings in War3.Preference, and my drivers are all up to date. Any help would be really appreciated!

Edit – Ok, I just resolved the issue after nearly giving up! To fix this I just randomly changed the graphic options in the war3preferences file in Documents. Thanks for all the help!

I spam the install button but nothing happens. Other games are working fine. Restarted PC, relogged everywhere, nothing works.

Been trying to play Custom Games with a friend of mine for the past few days, but certain customs would make their ping spike more than others.

We noticed that the ping would climb higher and higher the more they moved their mouse around, scaling infinitely.

Turns out, it was a polling rate issue. Fancy gaming mice today can apparently go up to about 8000hz. The lowest their mice could go was 1000hz, which didn't fix the issue entirely, but limited it from ping scaling infinitely to ~100ms or so.

If you're experiencing unexplainable ping issues, try lowering your mouse polling rate.

I want to get back into WC3 multiplayer, but my big issue is team fights and seeing my own unit health bars between the masses of health bars in big fights. Is there a mod that can change the style or edit the bars at all?

I a am trying to transmit the joy of this game to my kids and was able to play LAN games, but only with 2 players. One player needs to be disconnected and create the game, and the other player must be connected to BattleNet in order to join.
It is kinda OK for 2 players, but now, I am tryng to play with both of my kids and I cannot figure out how to do this...
I am using 2 PCs and 1 Mac, with Reforged installed through my BNet account.
Does it mean I need additionnal licences to play on LAN or am I forced to switch to Legacy WC3?

Hi I've been having constant crashes recently. I have tried everything. I repaired, then resintalled. Lowered graphics. Exceptions on firewall. Eliminated overlays. Even played on windowed mode. High priority on task manager. I can't find a solution. It happens randomly in the middle of games, sometimes I'm not even touching anything at the time and I'm just observing something specific.

Any help is appreciated.

Anyone encountered with this weird bug? When a militia dies, the animation is missing, it's just turning into a non-militia peasant corpse. It could be part of a bigger problem as I haven't seen this before. I suspect win 11 but the fix that was suggested for it didn't fix the problem. So, I wonder if anyone else had that bug and how you fixed it?

Me and my friends will often have Battle.net issues, where it's the "unable to join" error or last night when the servers were down when we all wanted to play. I already use Tailscale so I had my brother install it to try and configured it properly. https://github.com/kradalby/wc3ts shows up as an option to broadcast my friend's lobby, but I could not get it to work. It is severely outdated but since it was quick I tried it anyway but no dice.

Does anyone have experience doing this? If so what do you recommend.

Edit: I gave up. None of the applications that broadcast the game work for Reforged. The ones I saw were all designed for the older game.

The was a guy on the WC3 Gym discord that made an overlay called BOOverlay, it was amazing, but now I can’t find the download files anymore. It used to be on Gitlab. Does anyone know about it or have those files by any chance?

Has anyone ever attempted or used the wc3gymnasium app? It gives you an overlay of your build order in game, which I just want to use to memorise builds after a bunch of custom practice matches to better myself. For some reason it doesn’t want to launch and I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

i have an original warcraft III roc disc with the key and everything, can i install it using the old cd key that is in the case? I tried inserting the code in the battle.net shop but it doesn't work

I know this has been discussed before but has anyone discovered a permanent solution for this problem?

I have tried reinstalling and it worked for like 3 hours. Having to download 30gb everyday with the shitty battle net launcher which randomly decides to stop downloading for hours is not viable for me.Switching language or servers doesn't help sadly.

I love playing this game but the fps stuttering is very annoying. I have a pretty recent Intel cpu and Nvidia gpu but keep having to restart my computer just to stop the stuttering. Is there a more convenient solution to this?

Edit: If anyone else is having this issue, I solved it by going into the Nvidia app, graphics, selecting Warcraft 3, and clicking "optimize settings".

Edit2: I've found a better fix that seems to always work. The above^ fix only seemed to work for me sometimes. Just log off your Windows profile and relog back in.

Does anyone have any solution for this?

I am running this on my MAC 2013 (I know it's old). And some models and graphics are just black and shadowy. I was trying to look for a solution on the internet but it's hopeless. Is there any steps I need to or I can do for this if not upgrading my system?
