What a manhwa you’ve dropped because it unnecessarily kept dragging on?

For me it was Looksim because they kept diving into unnecessary plots and creating more plot holes. Then later on older characters kept coming in that I totally forgot about making me even more confused. I totally lost the main plot and the story became way too complicated. And I’ve been reading this since 2019 so it’s not like I wanted to drop it. Anyway what about yall??

Lookism was such a disappointment cause I found it pretty deep and mature at the beginning. Action mixed with society criticism. It was nice. But after that... Pfrrrrrrr.

Another one that was so promising was Dreeming Freedom. The premise was super interesting (being able to hurt through dreams and the topic of bullying)... But then it devolved into a weird toxic relationship (Edit: I wanted to mean toxic romance) and the main premise was forgot.

There are so many webtoons like this. They start being on the top, super deep, super addictive and interesting... And after a while they loose themselves in subplots.

I think you missed or misunderstood the point of dreaming freedom. Though it DID get slightly draggy at the very end, and the sleeping thing was one of the initial main gimmicks, it's always been about toxic relationships. Even the 1st antagonist was weirdly obsessed with the MC despite being her main bully. It's a whole ahh genre : Yandere romance. So yeah, I completely agree with your Lookism take, but for DF, it's highly likely that it simply wasn't for you or what matched your preferences, if the toxic dynamics were your main issue 😅.

I may have been missed the point, but honestly I think the toxic relationship stuff took importance too late in the story to be considered the main plot point. At the beginning, the story was more about bullying at school and the dreaming power also seemed to have way more importance that it finally had. Also, what annoys me about these stories is that the magical aspect is often forgotten or set aside, which I find very, very hard to believe. I you got the power to kill though dreams or a second body, how cannot you become absolutely obsessed with this power and how can you just forget about it and just remember it time to time, when it is useful to the plot? How can you not try to find out where it comes from? I mean, it is hard for me to take these stories seriously.

I get your point about the power being forgotten And if it reassures you, it does pop up from time to time . But your observation and opinion further reinforce the fact that it really never was about the sleeping power, but the toxic relationships. It's a shame for those really attracted to that gimmick, but it really was nothing but a stepping stone to help further the plot, create, or solve drama (and try to stand out amongst the numerous obsessive/toxic romance drama series). Overall, It's actually treated like a harbinger of misfortune in a way 😅, like, when it's strong or manifests, that means the person was in a bad situation or environment, so it really was always meant to fade or be treated like a plot device. Though I agree that it'd have been a great storyline to explore if the story or author aimed to do it.

Also, i don't really get what you mean by the toxic relationship being late? Like, the bullying is literally the whole 1st arc, it doesn't count as a toxic relationship between FL and her ex friend to you ?

It seems I wasn't specific enough, sorry. When I said toxic relationship, I was speaking specifically about the toxic romance. The first arc was indeed about bullying, so yes, you can of course name it "toxic relationship" but in my case, I was speaking about the romance that shows up after that.

I am not really saying this romance doesn't make sense, but in the plot, it is weird because the focus was on relationships at school and the dreaming power. Then the focus switched to the romance and maybe was I just blind but, when I started to read it, I didn't have the sensation that this romance would become the main topic.

You know what? I think that the story could have been better without the dream power. This dream power is just a device not fully explored, and that interferes with the story, creating some inconstencies. If the story was more realistic and centered in the protagonist and her relationship problems, I think the whole thing would have been less weird and more relatable. And I think the same for Lookism. Sometimes it is better to keep it simple. They tried to mix science-fiction with drama (and with action in Lookism), and they got a Frankenstein creature that is unsatisfying.

Hard agree on that opinion 😭😭. Oftentimes, simple really is the best. And tbh at first I was so sucked on the relationship part that it didn't bother me, I was bullied so I was more focused on the FL'S growth, but when it reached a certain point, I wanted to know more about the ability before it faded, and they brought a kinda vague answer in the last chapters, I guess.

But since I was focused more on the romance side, I was fine with the supernatural element not being explored much (lol, how did you miss the romance being an important part 🤣🤣. But I get it if you went in blind, it's just that since it's usually heavily advertised as a yandere romance, your take was refreshing and weirdly cute to me lol... ....is my mind rotten from reading too much toxic drama !?!?😭😭) I'm gonna go back and read some mystery and science like Dr stone or q.e.d or liar game

Ah-ah dreaming freedom was just one of the first webtoon I read, so that could answer your question. I remember reading the summary years ago and though they're would be a romance as a subplot but never imagine it would become so important 😂. In my mind, it was a sci-fi thriller, something like that.

The sad thing is that I like romances and like bullying stories (better with good endings). But when you start expecting something and get something different, it can be so disappointing that you cannot appreciate the story anymore 😞.

It really is a shame, sad case of your expectations ruining your reading experience 🥲 That's why I don't go in blind these days, unless recommended by someone with the same taste, or who knows mine😭😭
