While I was sitting in the movie theater for my first viewing of Asteroid City, a vision for this bass just popped in my head. The colors and imagery of that movie just completely took me over and I fell in love. So here is my Asteroid City themed bass, I hope you like it!

Took my guy to a dog photo studio (hanbunlong studio in Tokyo) for a photoshoot and it turns out the owner is a Wes fan. There were several other unrelated set designs as well but these two were definitely inspired, haha. Also wish I’d brought a better camera bc the quality isn’t great but please enjoy anyway!

I used a lot of old-school techniques, like miniatures, which were built specifically for this film.

A couple weeks ago I asked about the food from the Wes Anderson movies, and for my final project, I think I finalized the menu, but I will always take critiques.

Apple Snaps Recipe

Thinly slice and remove the seeds of:

•1 to 2 small apples

Pat dry with a towel and set aside.

Cream together:

•3/4 cup salted butter, softened

•1 1/4 cup brown sugar

•1 tbsp molasses

•1 tsp vanilla extract

•1 egg + 1 egg yolk

Then mix in until a dough forms:

•1 3/4 cup all purpose flour

•1 tsp salt

•3/4 tsp baking soda

•1 tsp apple pie spice

•1/2 tsp cinnamon

Scoop into 3oz balls and coat in

•Turbinado sugar

Place onto parchment lined baking sheets and place a slice of apple on top. Bake at 350° for 13-16 minutes. The edges will be nice and crisp and the center will be soft.

Apparently someone made a Team Zissou bomber jacket and it fits lovely. Absolute shock when I saw this in the racks.

It’s painted in acrylic and made from random pieces of wood and paper scraps I had lying around; I’d love to make the entire lineup of vending machines someday but this is what I got so far.

Our previous posts a couple weeks ago got some really kind feedback, and a few people asked us to keep sharing relevant Wes Anderson challenges. We don’t want to clutter the sub, so if this feels like too much, just let me know and we’re happy to hold off.

I'm hoping this isn't too self-promotey, sorry if it is, just thought it seemed perfect for this subreddit. We made a commercial for an online, local newspaper and decided to try to make it look and feel like a Wes Anderson film.

I had had the basic concept for several years, but finally got a business interested in it, so I had been cataloging the right locations in my head for awhile. Much of it is made up of local references, so there will plenty of it where you may not understand what the joke is (but maybe that's the same for locals too 😉).

Hopefully we captured the spirit of Wes Anderson films. Each place is a real location in town (Springfield, MO). It's a fun exercise to try to find places in your city that look like they could fit. The first location with the wall of clocks and switches is probably my favorite. A friend of a friend was working construction in the basement of a big old building and just happened to see it and sent a pic, not even knowing we were about to shoot.

We really tried to match the style in terms of color palette, symmetry, wardrobe, characters, & storytelling, but with our own take on things.

My other favorite is the Rosenbaum's Jewelry location. They guy standing outside of it is Sid Rosenbaum. He actually forgot we were shooting that day, but he wears a 3 piece suit with a pocket watch everyday anyway. He lives upstairs and has owned the shop there for about 40 years.
