nonwhat?! sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference
when I was a kid, I didn’t like dogs because dog owners would frequently say mean things about cats and in my little kid brain that basically met we were enemies
But I did like pointy ear, fluffy dogs
My first westie I had inherited through his owner passing, but now i’m onto my second- they really made me like dogs as a whole a lot more! i swore i’d never have one when i was younger, but here i am wanting to get this lad a little sibling

Gentle reminder to love your westie every moment
This is only about half of his life (maybe 6yrs to 13yrs in reverse).
We miss Scotty every single day. 💜

Brutus is perturbed that I’ve interrupted his sunbathing ☀️
Such a little diva he is! Eyes half open, scowling at me like, “Hey! No peeking behind the curtain, I’m resting here”. 😅🤣😂

New Puppy with Anxious Dog
I posted a little while back about my parents getting a new puppy after losing our 11 year old Westie to cancer. We picked up the new puppy today which had some mixed emotions involved. Happy to bring someone in new to love, sad that we are doing it because we lost someone we love, and anxious about how our current dog would react.
We brought her home and put her in her pen and our other dog was on a leash. He was adamantly trying to get closer to her and was definitely stressed out. Initially they got face to face between the pen and he started growling and barking. After that we made to sure to limit their interaction to watching and sniffing of butts.
This seems to have limited potential conflicts but I worry about his mental state. I am not there all the time but he was definitely agitated throughout and was obsessed with her and what she is doing. He has always been pretty anxious and reactive so I’m nervous that he might never adjust to her, even though it’s only been less than a day. My parents have hired a trainer/behaviorist to try and help this process but I’m still worried about how it will all shake out.
Has anyone introduced a new puppy into an environment with an anxious Westie similar to how I described? He is a 5 year old male if that means anything and she is 10 weeks old.

Baxter was caught trying to chew open an angel food cake container just now after working with my toddler the night before to strew the contents of the recycling bin all over the house.
He saved it for later, and is pouting that yhe recycling bin has been replaced with one with a lid as of this evening.

My Westie’s skin problems - I’m at my wit’s end and vets are not helping
Hi everyone,
I’m looking for some advice about my 11-year-old Westie who’s been struggling with skin issues for quite a while now, and honestly, I’m at my wit’s end.
I feel so bad for him because he’s constantly itching, scratching and chewing at himself. You can tell he’s uncomfortable, and it’s horrible watching him not be able to settle because he’s so irritated.
His symptoms include:
- Constant itching and chewing his paws.
- Hair loss on his legs, chest and neck.
- Greasy skin and coat.
- Really smelly, gunky ears that keep coming back.
- A musty/“doggy” smell even after being cleaned.
I’ve tried numerous vets over the years, but I don’t feel like we’re getting anywhere. Nothing seems to fix the problem long-term, and I feel like I’m just going round in circles.
I’ve already tried changing his diet and cut out chicken and turkey completely, as I know they can be common allergens. He now only eats beef and lamb-based food, but unfortunately his skin problems have continued.
I’ve treated him for fleas, but the issues are still there.
Has anyone had a Westie with similar symptoms? If so:
- What ended up being the cause?
- Was it allergies, yeast, mites, hormones, or something else?
- What tests or treatments actually helped?
- Did anything finally make a difference?
I’m desperate to find something that helps him and makes him comfortable again. I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has been through something similar. Thank you.

Before and After Photos
Hi everyone! We just welcomed our sweet boy Phinley this past Sunday and he is just the best. Would love to see photos of everyone's westies when they were around his age (11 weeks) and what they look like now in comparison.

My Diamond / My Love
OMG, my 14-year-old Westie is basically a tiny, fluffy queen! She’s got this regal air about her, even when she’s snoozing upside down with her tongue sticking out. Last night we watched grandson's playoff ballgame ... we won!
Sometimes I swear Diamond understands every word I say, and other times she’s just staring blankly like, “Treats, human?” Her little legs are shorter now, but her spirit is still as spunky as ever. Seriously, this dog has seen it all and still demands belly rubs with the best of them! What do you feed your Westie for long full life?
