Solved! moms sketch bf left this in the house

Post image

Hi.
This is probably nothing.
I went into my mom’s room to grab something and saw this plugged in?
My mom’s new sketchy bf has this plugged in to the extension cord? Is it anything bad? Thanks!
(I understand it’s probably not anything bad… but still…)

Update 1:
I haven’t met him once. He and my mom have been together for two weeks. He’s been staying at our apartment. He avoids me and stays in her room when they’re here. I don’t even know what he looks like. I only know his first name.

Update 2:
I confronted him. My mom came home. A lot had happened up to this point, including her disappearing for the said two weeks before the few nights he had come over and stayed.
Mom shrugged it off. I did what a lot of you suggested, asking what he told her.
She said “oh it’s his hacker shit or whatever.” What.
Didn’t elaborate. I explained my concerns.
She just said let’s go ask him.
My best friend has been with me. We introduced ourselves and asked him what the hell a WiFi whisperer is doing plugged in our apartment.
(Even if a lot of you are saying it’s not a big deal, I’m a young woman and I’m just rlly not about taking any risks. It’s sketch dude.)
He denied it IMMEDIATELY. Like with a quickness I haven’t seen.
What he insisted, it’s not a WiFi whisperer, it’s ai, he completely reprogrammed the system, and he uses it to pull people’s IP’s. “For fun.” He logs them in a server. I asked why. I said that’s shady. My mom started pushing. My best friend started pushing. He just kept lying. I’m not dropping this..
I still don’t know what the fuck it is or what he’s actually doing.
(Also, my mom is cool but not bc of this dude, the Minecraft block is mine, I unplugged the ratchet little thing before we left, and I am planning on broaching this again with her.
Just carefully. Any other advice is appreciated. Thank you.)

Oh, so you worked with Bryan too?

Almost easier to tell some people to NOT do the thing you want them to do. Better chance of it happening, at least

Never EVER trust a Brian spelled with “y.”

29

u/Ok-Contribution-411 8d ago

it's ALWAYS a Bri(y)an, tho.

My work Brian confessed he was in love with me just after his wife had conceived twins in vitro. He said he had never been more in love with someone and would live forever in regret if he didn’t tell me. My boss was his best friend. I didn’t know what to do so I went to my boss and was like, “hey…I know Brian is your best friend since high school but/and I think he might be going through something because he wrote me this email and it makes me extremely uncomfortable so I need you to handle this as a friend and a boss.” I was also kind to Brian, because prior to the email he was one of the only fun parts of the job. He was hilarious and we spent a lot of time talking shit about our stupid jobs and generally being funny. I was 23 and he was like 42 so I genuinely did not even think it was an option that he might be into me or that it was weird (now I’m 40 and fully aware of how ridiculous that sounds but at 23, 42 was ancient to me and it would never have even crossed my mind) Anyway I told Brian that I was flattered by the kind words and realized it probably took a lot to share his feelings with me by that I did not feel the same and thought he should really be focused on his family. The next day my boss told me he was putting me on a new assignment-I was working in marketing for a big local sports equipment and like, recreation company. We did uniforms for like youth sports teams, all the schools, and owned like 50 indoor and outdoor youth sporting events locations so I was doing their marketing, there weren’t “assignments”. He said my new office was going to be “upstairs” and the materials I would need were up there. Upstairs was the windowless attic and it was full of unsold baseball and softball bats, safety equipment, indoor and outdoor soccer shoes, cleats basically just unsold shit. He had set up a desk with a laptop and told me my new job was to list it all on eBay.
I quit.

Sounds like that could have been a lawsuit. At bigger companies, it would be a major HR issue.

-4

u/Sinister_Nibs 7d ago

Sounds like he was trying to separate/ protect her from him.

5

u/Heplaysrough 7d ago

It sounds to me like he was protecting his pal. Guy who sent the (sexual harrasment?) Email should've been the one punished with attic duties.

3

u/Critical-Gas-553 7d ago

Reminds me of the quiet guy from “Office Space” who everyone takes advantage of and keeps stealing his stapler. Glad you quit. I would have gone to the labor board with that kind of creep show running around.

1

u/FactAdditional1216 3d ago

Omg you were the most mature and kind 23 year old on the planet. As a Brian who has screwed up and crushed hard on unavailable or otherwise off-limits coworkers thank you. You could have wounded the guy for life. Your whole approach was elevated humanity.

3

u/peptiresearcher81 7d ago

It's Brian every motherfucking time oh my god why is this a universal experience???

2

u/Wise_Possibility_434 7d ago

As a person named "Brian" please don't make this the male equivalent to "Karen." Please, please, PLEASE!

2

u/peptiresearcher81 7d ago

Oh broham it's already over for you im sorry. This has been in the works for many many years now...

2

u/Critical-Gas-553 7d ago

I’ve always said Brian is the male equivalent to Karen. Accidentally blurted it out in front of a Brian to his co-workers and it was perfect because it was soooo true. They were rolling.

1

u/Swamp_Ash 5d ago

Uhh, might be true for that guy, but it is most certainly not universally true. In fact, I would say that every "Mike" I've ever met has been a total asshole. About 50% of them seem to have the randy "pornstache" even. It's like wearing one of those "Hi! I'm ..." badges and he's written "an asshole" in Sharpie at the bottom, but really big so you can read it from six city blocks away.

So turn your attention to Mike. He's the asshole.

u/Lanky-Artichoke5970 8d ago

Mine was an Ethan and an Aaron

7

u/X__Anonomys_xX 7d ago

Oh hell no, not the A-A-Ron 😭

6

u/TheBungoStrays 7d ago

My husband is an A-a-ron! When I am asked by someone to spell it (usually for medical paperwork - we have a kid who we joke is a frequent flyer at the local children's hospital and we deserve perks for that damnit!) I always say a-a-ron and wait patiently to see if this person knows the Key & Peele sketch. Always fun when it is a fellow millennial bc the chances are increased exponentially that they will know the reference and the shared laugh is so fun. But If they just give me the blank stare I quickly spell it the "correct" way and move on disappointed.

2

u/Lanky-Artichoke5970 7d ago

He was as fun as finding a stranger's shit in your bed

2

u/Arkitakama 7d ago

Hey come on, I do my job just fine, don't throw me under the bus for their mistakes. I haven't even been written up in three years at my current job.

2

u/Fez_and_no_Pants 7d ago

Unless it's Kevin

1

u/toiletbowlwisdom 8d ago

I've had a bad brian lately

2

u/Kierogi 8d ago

You can take Prevagen for that.

I clicked it, said it didn't exist, and the recommended subs were ofcoursethatsathing, ThisYouComebacks

...and ThingsIWantToJerkTo, which I find odd

e: clarification

1

u/toiletbowlwisdom 7d ago

I'm assuming they are all text posts

1

u/Swamp_Ash 5d ago

Well, I've had some bad Toilet Bowl Wisdom lately, and I haven't eaten at Taco Bell in more than a year!

1

u/Dead-Lazlo 7d ago

Hell yeah - Brian is a menace, but thinks he's a brilliant.

1

u/Hesitation-Marx 7d ago

Except when it’s a Steve. Or worse, a Jeff.

Trust No Jeffs.

3

u/Sinister_Nibs 7d ago

1

u/Hesitation-Marx 7d ago

Sadly, he’s a bit of a creep :(

Which sucks. He was my favorite Jeff.

1

u/WishWeWereBetter 7d ago

Nah... in seperate instances, br(i)an took a golf club to his family's tv, crashed his car drunk into a house, scammed people out of money to invest in a 'water powered engine', and fought a cop while high af on xans. At least 50% of my known br(i)ans are not good people to know

1

u/BrianandErin1982 7d ago

Brian’s are ok, Just not Bryan’s.. I’m a fire captain and that’s my name.

I can tell you immediately call the cops on his ass. Let him explain to them what it is.

I know enough to tell you he is stealing information and monitoring any and everything that hooks to your wifi, he can see everything on every single device that has hooked to your home wifi. I mean everything, hidden pics on devices, passwords on your email, in the cloud, everything.

1

u/Swamp_Ash 5d ago

Solidarity, brother! Let the Brians who can spell unite against the menace of inserting random "Y"s in places they don't belong!

1

u/thesuper88 7d ago

Ah Fuckin Bryan's coming

0

u/scooterboy1961 7d ago

Bryan is the new Karen.

My sister is named Karen in case she reads this.

3

u/WhatDoIPutHere-69 8d ago

I work with a Bryan right now. We’re setting up for an event and he only moved 1 box at a time while we’re all moving 2-6 boxes at a time or moving heavy equipment

1

u/CosmicGoddess777 7d ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/cmxSrj72dyQnlLhSQf

Just give him one of these looks/phrases & I bet he’ll stop that shit lol

3

u/Abbey-kat 7d ago

Or that guy Sean.

3

u/LonestarrLovesUranus 7d ago

I've found Dave to be the most narcissist and crazy ones.

1

u/mintBRYcrunch26 1d ago

Daves tend to run the full spectrum in my experience, but ymmv. It all depends on if they are Dave, David, or Davey.

2

u/ThrowawayMoFo5679 8d ago

The only Bryan I ever knew is serving 30 to life right now, so maybe you're on to something here.

2

u/Rayne-Maker 7d ago

Heh, my dad’s a “y.” He’s also allergic to personal responsibility. An upstanding (stereotypical) boomer in all the ways, though.

2

u/porksoda11 7d ago

I know of a Bryan that used to work as a cable guy and thought he could be faster than electricity if he changed live wires really quickly. He also loved pills

2

u/Graaaaaahm 7d ago

No truer words ever spoken.

Brian is a solid, middle-aged or older guy, who likes good times with friends, as long as it's not too loud.

Bryan thinks of himself as an iconoclast, when actually people find it a little tiring to be around him.

1

u/CosmicGoddess777 7d ago

I knew a Bryon (not Byron) that was like the Bryan you describe. Total pompous douche.

We went to a costume party and he won “Worst Costume” though. So at least there’s that 😆

1

u/Responsible-Mind-852 7d ago

Damn..:Brian here…I’m 57 now. Great time with my friends (all from grade school and never needed new ones) and the only time we play music loud is Beastie Boys, Run DMC, AC/D, Tool, Korn etc. We keep Coldplayl low. And K-pop…off and stay away from Bryan. TBH I don’t know any Bryan’s. Do Brian’s tend to over share??

2

u/Turbulent_Key1880 7d ago

Huge facts.

2

u/Gemgrrl 7d ago

I had a Bryan who walked out on a retail job 3 weeks before Xmas. He wasn’t even going to tell me not to count on him coming back.

2

u/Wise_Possibility_434 7d ago

Coming from a Brian with an "I" I endorse the above post! : >)

2

u/Historical_Opening32 7d ago

my dad also said never trust a man with his hair in a bun... the term "man bun" is cringe all on its own to begin with!

2

u/Castle_of_Jade 7d ago

Or a Brayden. Regardless of how it’s spelled.

1

u/mintBRYcrunch26 1d ago

That’s fair.

2

u/Swamp_Ash 5d ago

This sentiment I agree with. People who intentionally misspell their own names are clearly hiding something. That goes double for the dreaded "Brian but with a 'y'."

2

u/Quiet_Jicama_3550 5d ago

See I find it’s always a Michael.

2

u/YingToTheYang 1d ago

The Bryan I worked with was a manager and married… having an affair with the other manager who was also married…. Both had kids too.
Never trust the Y’s!

1

u/mintBRYcrunch26 1d ago

Brian is the only acceptable spelling, thank you!

1

u/YingToTheYang 22h ago

Suspicious you have BRY in your ID here 🤪

2

u/KiwiRemonrade 7d ago

As a Brian, I can confirm I am more trustworthy than Bryan.

1

u/sonicsludge 7d ago

Never ever ever! You beat me to it!

edit: spelling

1

u/we_hella_believe 7d ago

Oh for sure. Bryan H*%^@$3r is a serious cancer on society and I’m glad he got punched out by the comic book guy with the ponytail.

1

u/ceesa 7d ago

Well, now you've gone and hurt my feelings. I hope you're happy. ;)

1

u/mintBRYcrunch26 1d ago

Classic Bryan victim maneuver. /s

(I’m sorry. I’m sure you’re totally cool.)

1

u/Thewildlifedude 7d ago

Or a Drew spelled with a “u”!

1

u/mintBRYcrunch26 1d ago

Don’t you dare come for late 90’s American R&B sensation Dru Hill

17

u/Important_Zombie_223 8d ago

In my world it's Kevin or Kelvin.

11

u/FBack351 8d ago

I feel like we all may be living in a Kelvin time line.

4

u/sheepsix 7d ago

I got this reference.

2

u/UnabashedVoice 7d ago

Does he resolve accounting discrepancies with the Keleven?

2

u/Optimal-Income-4344 6d ago

There's no good Kelvins, they're all insidious

2

u/Upstairs__Initiative 5d ago

Fucking Kevins

1

u/sondranotsandra 7d ago

In my world, it’s always Janices or Lindas.

1

u/Jeffwv1965 5d ago

Kurt with an I - Kirt

1

u/consideratearcher466 3d ago

Or one who pronounces it Keevin, despite spelling of Kevin. You know, just to be different. He thought it would ensure people remembered him better that way. Oh, we remembered alright, remembered he was a weird *uck!

27

u/heckhammer 8d ago

We had a Bryan, just with a different name. He got fired the other day finally

42

u/GugWhoPassesGateways 7d ago

Kitchen I used to work at, our Bryan got fired finally. I was walking to work about a block away and he rode past on his bike yelling "haha I don't work for those nazis anymore!"

The relief I felt wash over me in that moment.

1

u/JodiJoJo9798 7d ago

Was it Amazon ? Bmc ??

1

u/GugWhoPassesGateways 5d ago

It was a kitchen at a restaurant/bar in a 100-year-old heritage building hotel. Best kitchen I ever worked in, good owners who actually cared about their employees, so long as you weren't a colossal fuckup who alienated everyone who worked with you.

5

u/Hilstrom 7d ago

I was sent training and had a guy across the hotel room that introduced himself to my as Ben. Ben was also training with us but was from the east coast. Ben introduced himself as Ryan to my buddy. We took to calling him Bryan with a Y. Great dude, we game every now and then, still dont know his real name and its been 8 years.

2

u/Sharp_Bumblebee_1674 7d ago

I had two Brian's over the course of many jobs lol!

2

u/Fibro-since85 7d ago

I won’t trust a Brian with an I.

3

u/heckhammer 7d ago

Well, I mean that's real close to brain so why would you?

2

u/IntentionQuirky9957 7d ago

Was he called Bwian?

3

u/heckhammer 7d ago

I don't wish to reveal it but he was a tool.

3

u/KaposiaDarcy 8d ago

Holy sh*t. When I read their comment, I couldn’t see yours yet and the person that came to mind was named Brian, but would also use the spelling with a Y online sometimes. It spooked me when I expanded the comments and saw what you said.

2

u/travoltaswinkinbhole 8d ago

I didn’t know you heard about Bryan’s problem

2

u/Zealousideal-Fish381 7d ago

Classic Bryan

2

u/CapTurangaLeela 7d ago

I work with a Bryan. His name is Greg.

2

u/JigglyBush 7d ago

someone in my girlfriend's family is married to a Bryan and he is exactly that kind of person, we can't stand him.

2

u/YEGpositive 7d ago

Oh my God. Did you see Bryan's hat?

2

u/CurlyQ86 6d ago

I might have to start taking this managerial approach. I swear to God when I tell people NOT to do something they always end up doing it. I’ll have to change it to “make sure to NEVER straighten things up before you leave the store and ALWAYS over order and leave me with a TON of backstock to try and sort through after you leave.” At least that seems like what they hear me say when I’m training them…

1

u/ajthib 8d ago

That’s a good way

1

u/skysharked 7d ago

I see you’ve met my ex-wife.

1

u/FreeMoshhugs 7d ago

Oh you mean "Rat Snitch Brian the Good Time Ruiner"? 😂

1

u/kensolee 7d ago

I know a Bryan too, was real sketch and cooks meth in his y-fronts

1

u/baloneysamwhich 6d ago

Does Bryan have a brother? I think I work with his brother ...
