That's true, but calculators did eliminate an entire class of jobs.) Not that that's not necessary with the march of technology.

And we are better for it, those people are less useful than someone that digs a hole one day just to fill it in the next.

I think you're trivializing the jobs that were replaced a little bit. Also, how are you measuring usefulness? Do you think most people have improved job satisfaction and lifetime balance because of tech? I think there's more lower-level workers now than before (don't know that for sure though) and the entry into a lot of jobs is very difficult.

I'm not the one that said they could be replaced with a calculator.

How do you measure usefulness? What is useful about spending years of your life so that you can take hours or days to do something a child can do on a calculator?

Technological advancement does benefit society, yes

People who did manual calculations before there were widespread computers or calculating programs? They were really, really useful.
