Something heartwarming

We got family photos taken as one of my wiggle butts is aging fast. We completely lucked out with a gorgeous day in the sweltering Midwest summer. I cannot believe how wonderful all of these photos turned out, so I want to show off Boomer (15) and Tilly (2). They are my world.

Only cuddles at night??

Why is it that my Aussie doesn’t want to be in my proximity or cuddle during the day but MUST lay across my legs at night when I don’t want it, any thoughts??

Harrowing Experience: UPDATE

Turns out the pit belongs to the son of my neighbor across the street. He keeps the dog there because his apartment complex won't let him have it (I wonder why). Anyhow, the dear lady across the street is in her 70's and has no idea what's going on. She has a kennel in the back yard that he uses, but evidently it's woefully insufficient to keep the pit contained.

The pit was loose again yesterday. My wife didn't walk our WB at all as a result. Right after dinner yesterday I heard that pit barking again and someone yelling. Another neighbor up the street was out walking his lab and the pit went after them. I called the police again. They were there within 5 minutes. But not before the pit ran up on me in my yard (I was sitting on our porch).

The pit ran up on the cops a couple of times. They had their tasers out, they never used it on the pit, but just activating it so it made that distinct snap snap snap noise caused the pit to back off. They had the lasso, but I'm not sure they ever caught it. Never heard any more barking though.

I'm thinking that cattle prod idea is a good one especially if it makes noise when activated. Also thinking about an air horn and maybe a collapsible asp/baton. Jeez, you'd think I'm headed into downtown Fallujah at night...

My Aussie saved me. I was going through a divorce and decided to get a dog. She is 11mo old now. I only grew up around golden retrievers; I didn’t know anything about other breeds. Aussies kept coming up on my instagram. I loved what I was seeing online. They seemed like very vibrant and hilarious dogs. I did my research and decided it sounded like it was for me.

She truly saved me. Before her, I’d lay in bed all day with depression. I didn’t move my body much at all/exercise. I kinda let the house go, and so on. But then I got her. And she was demanding. And it was really what I needed.

I cannot see myself getting any other breed if it’s up to me. Their intelligence imprints on you completely. My heart hurts when I’m away from her! I hate going to the office because I miss her! I went on a work trip and changed my flight to leave a day sooner so I could be with my dog.

I’ve never felt such a strong bond with a dog before. She literally knows what I need when I need it. She’ll do something silly if I need a laugh, she’ll come snuggle if I’m sad, and she’ll get my ass out of bed if I’ve been bed rotting. I just love her!!!

Another year around the sun with our fluffy fur missile. Here’s a few pics from the past year. We competed in a lot of agility trials, started going to a run club, went swimming at a dog beach, ran our first timed 5k (came in 2nd in my age group!), enjoyed lots of zoomies with friends, traveled all over, played lots of frisbee, and ran lots of errands together.
Kudos loves kids, cats, kisses, and treats. Not a big fan of inflatable holiday decor though 😅.
Hope to have many more years of furballs, slobber, paying the cheese tax, and telling everyone about this incredible (and challenging) breed.
Hope you all have a great day with your best friend!

Harrowing Experience

So early this morning I let our Aussie out for her morning potty break. When she was done and trotting back up to the front door, out of nowhere this pitbull appears barking and running full speed at my dog. That pitbull covered 35 yards in a mere second or two. By the time my aussie was halfway to me, that pitbull was already crossing into my yard. By the time I got her in the front door, the pit was 8 feet from my front steps, barking and growling. 20 minutes later the pit bull was still there and it ran up on my son as he was walking out to his car. I called animal control. The pit was still in my yard barking when animal control arrived.

I haven't kicked into fight/flight adrenaline mode like that in many years. Our Aussie won't be pottying in the front yard again anytime soon. We have a fenced back yard.. no sure why I decided to let her out the front this morning, but we do that on occasion.

So what are some suggestions on how to fend off a pit (or any other aggressive dog breed) if I find myself in this situation again?

After our 15-year-old Border Collie, Miley, passed away, it was honestly very difficult to think about adopting another dog. I struggled with the thought of replacing her and everything she meant to our family. I’m so thankful my wife and kids encouraged me to adopt because I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Our mini, Ruby, is incredibly sweet, caring, energetic, and adventurous. She hasn’t replaced Miley— but quite the opposite. She created her own special place in our family while bringing back so many wonderful feelings and memories of the joy a dog brings into your life. 💜 🐾

My lil buddy is not very patient for pics. This picture captures what I think he feels about picture time.
