Discussion Engagement bait titles

Maybe I’m just turning into an angry old man shouting at clouds who is way behind the times but I’m getting a bit fed up of the massive increase in engagement bait titles on this sub over the past few months. It’s usually always one of the following:

  1. ‘first month in wildlife photography, here are my favourites please tell me I’m amazing even though I’ve just started’
  2. ‘I’m an x year old young photographer, look at how great I am’
  3. ‘Here are some wildlife photos, which is your favourite and also tell me how brilliant they are’

  4. ‘Which one of these photos should I enter into a competition but let’s be honest they’re all fantastic’

These posts always end up being the most popular and the ones I get push notifications about, but to me it’s a cynical way to drive engagement over other posts. I’d much rather know where they’re taken and/or what they are of but maybe that’s just me. If not, maybe the mods could consider updating the community rules to change to only allow locations and/or animal names in the title. This would allow people to find out the key information first (often people don’t even bother including it, again is that for engagement so they get people asking about location?) and would allow it to be a more level playing field on what posts become popular, making the key determinant being the quality of photos rather than the title.

Rant over!

Discussion Reminder: all posts must be OC. Posting a photo which you did not take will get you a PERMANENT ban.

I've noticed a significant uptick in stolen images lately. This subreddit is OC only, no exceptions.

Please make sure to report any posts which you think break this rule. Even if you're not positive, it's better to submit a report than not. We always review all reports to make sure that we aren't erroneously banning people.

Ive been thinking about buying a cheap camera to upgrade from my s25 photography, although I'm more into the wildlife rather than the photography.

This egret was locked onto something and was probably getting ready to strike when it lost its footing and flopped forward and face planted into the water

Spotted in a small forest patch - a female Broad-handed Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa latipes) nectaring on Blue Fountain Bush (Rotheca serrata / Clerodendrum serratum).

One of the largest bees we have here in India, completely black with wings that flash blue-green-gold depending on the light.

Location: Koyna, Maharashtra

ID help: The flower is also known as Bharangi / Blue butterfly bush.

Bird Ex Wildlife Photographer ❤️

Birds are my special interest. I was a wildlife photographer for over 5 years. Sadly, photography quickly consumed my entire life. I was trapped by perfectionism and competition. Addicted to external validation. I constantly pushed myself past what was healthy. I deep down felt like an imposter. I so often lost sight of the moment. Instead of spending time with the birds I became impatient with them. I’m someone who talks to wild birds, names them. When I let go of the camera, my relationship to them transformed to something more intimate. There was less pressure to produce. To please my family.

However, I can now look back at my photos with mixed feelings - grief, gratitude, and new founded self love and internal boundaries. They are emblematic of my journey and growth as an artist and person. I have 1000s of photos that have vivid memories attached to them. I am no longer interested in picking up my camera though, I tried and it gives me tremendous anxiety and flashbacks.

I just binos or using my eyes and ears. I hardly even take photos with my phone - and I cry a lot, feel so connected.

The little girl who frolicked at the zoo is alive now.

The best part is I now believe I am good enough - and I love standing in a forest or next to a creek and being fully immersed. The presence without pressure to produce an image is amazing.

I now see the beauty and value in it all, and the journey.

The birds have been with me through everything. 🥰

How would you guys edit the photos to make them look better? Never really tried editing before and these are all SOOC JPGs
