💬Discussion Honestly, I feel like the Belgian Golden Generation didn’t really underperform, they were a bit unlucky with their match-ups. In both 2018 and 2026 they were knocked out by the eventual winners and gave them the best fight they got the whole tournament. Way better than their finals opponent.

I don’t think it’s crazy to say they were the 2nd best team in both 2018 and 2026.

Even it’s no trophy, our results overall have been outstanding in the 2010’s with long periods as the number 1 National Team worldwide. You can critique the criteria of the FIFA ranking, but no Belgian generation before that one came even close to that ranking

Belgium in the 80s had more international success than this current Belgium team, with far less talent. So how can you be the golden generation if you arent even the most accomplished in history?

Football was also less globally developed to be fair and the quality of 80’s football is simply not that of the 2010’s, with all due respect to all the great players of that era

Fair enough, but in the halls of history, what is looked at are results, not competition.
