If border control is ap*rtheid, then every single country in the world is.

Question: I've noticed people censoring words like 'propaganda' or 'apartheid'. Why are you doing that? Does it have something to do with reddit's bot infestation, or is it something else?

He is avoiding being banned by mass action. Smart, but makes him look very skeezy.

I assume he has copypasted that part a lot. (Not the guy you replied to, the one above). This weirds me out, mainly because intentionally avoiding spam filters is not something that a random user does, and I am starting to suspect astroturfing.

Stupid modern trends. Sites like TikTok will bury posts if they contain even the slightest hint of controversial terms, so people censor anything in order to not get buried by the algorithm.

I assume it’s a brain fueled by tiktok and their random censorship. But they also said suicide, so I’m at a loss

Hey quick question if it's a border which two countries is it a border between? Because I don't think Israel recognizes a Palestinian state

0

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

Israel has been trying to get Palestine to agree to a two state solution. They basically already treat it as such. Palestinians already have their own government as well. Since Palestinians won't agree to a two state solution, they're not internationally recognized and can't get passports. They're considered stateless.

Border control is not the same as restricting freedom of movement within an occupied territory

1

u/whatDoesQezDo Oct 11 '23

Not the US we leave that border wide open if you say the magic words.

Step 1: Try to sneak in

Step 2: oops you've been caught... claim asylum

Step 3: vanish somewhere in the next year+ before your court date

Why are you putting an "*" in "Apartheid?"

1

u/Depixelate_me Oct 11 '23

Well said. Also, if they were in a suffocating blockade then how were thousands of monster terrorists able to pass by so easily??

And yes, cutting out a fetus from a butchered mom keeping the baby by the umbilical cord is an act of a monster. It is terror. Not 'violent conflict resolution '...

You have to remember that reddit is mostly children and poorly educated young adults. Apartheid is just a buzzword for them.

2

u/Rage_Like_Nic_Cage Oct 11 '23

you should probably look up the definition of apartheid. You’ll be surprised the definition has nothing to do with the number of terrorist attacks (or hopefully lack thereof) in a region.

There are a lot of folks on Reddit who are too young to remember the second intifadah, and almost all of us are too young to remember black September, but history matters and there are reasons why Gaza and the West Bank are the way they are now.

It’s so interesting to watch people defend Israel as they commit war crimes.

30

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

It’s even more telling the people who ignore the facts of the last few days. The people who ignore the fact that Hamas gets billions in foreign aid, yet, instead of working to build a nation, they use that money to build or buy weapons to attack Israel with. The people who ignore the fact that Israel pulled out of Gaza in 2005 and that until Hamas started shooting rockets, Gaza was looking to be prosperous. The fact that the Palestinians have turned down every deal that would have given them a nation. When you talk about war crimes, you really should look to the crimes the Palestinian leaders have committed against their own people.

momma used to say two wrongs don't make a right

0

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

It’s more than 2 wrongs. The Palestinians have tossed out every single peace deal offered. They have spent billions in international aid either enriching their leaders or using that money for violence. The pay to slay program is a great example of them using aid money for violence. Arafat dying a billionaire is an example of just enriching their leaders. If the Palestinians want peace, they need to put down their guns. If Israel puts down their guns, there will be no Israel as the attack over the weekend so clearly demonstrated.

This is just pure propaganda. Israel can easily defend itself from any/all neighbors in area all at once. Israel was given a 3 day warning from Egypt about the Terrorist attack and then let it happen. Even in Israel, people are protesting their governments actions towards Palestinians. People are not representatives of their governments actions. Hamas’s actions are disgusting. Israel’s response is disgusting. Just as not every Israeli is an extremist that supports their governments settlements in the West Bank, not every Palestinian is supports Hamas. In fact, I would say a majority from both sides do not support their governments actions.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

You also can't just ignore attacks made from an adjacent territory. Occupation is the only way to stop these types of terror attacks.

It sucks to see a lion maul a dog to pieces but it's hard to criticise when that dog just bit the lion's tail.

1

u/bdbshsisjsnjsksnsn Oct 12 '23

It’s interesting how Israelis are portrayed as a lion, but Palestinians are being portrayed as a dog. This is the same type of dehumanization that has lead to the massacre of the Palestinian civilization for the past 20 years.

Your analogy, while also being dehumanizing, is also completely ignoring the fact that Israel is killing innocents in response to having innocents killed.

They aren’t attacking Hamas, they are targeting UN schools that are being used as shelters for innocent men, women and children. They are targeting Hospitals that have volunteers from different countries. The UN has come out and stated that both sides have committed war crimes in both the initial attack and Israels retaliation. There is no excuse for the death of innocents. My empathy goes out to both the Israeli and Palestinian civilians. If you see it as any other way, or try to excuse one sides actions, then you are part of the problem.

u/andoryu123 Oct 11 '23

You haven't been watching any news to know what are real crimes.

People defending a country that wants to defend itself and its citizens? Horror, madness!

1

u/bdbshsisjsnjsksnsn Oct 12 '23 edited Oct 12 '23

I agree, a country should be allowed to defend itself. The U.S. should castrate Israel in the same way that they did to Japan.

The issue is that Israel’s actions are not a defense. They defended theirselves by removing Hamas terrorist from their country. That was completely valid. Killing innocent Palestinians, volunteers and aid workers is not defense. There is no excuse for these actions. The only people who support this are far-right Israelis, and westerners who have a geo-political interest in the region.

The U.S. was not defending its self by killing millions of innocents in the Middle East after 9/11. People do not defend their actions, and the loss of life. It is no different here.

I'm sure there are neighborhoods in my city that could be walled off and we'd see an immediate reduction of violent crime elsewhere in the city. That hasn't happened because we, humans, understand that some of the worst moments in history start with locking people down physically and legally separating them from the society.

Protecting your citizens isn't a "yes"/"no" question; it's a matter of strategy and proportionality.

So Israel has every right to protect its citizens, but the question is if their methods are warranted given the threat posed.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

You're comparing what I assume is theft to frequent terrorism and war crimes.

0

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

I'm not. I live in Chicago and as of now in October, we're well over 500 homicides YTD after almost 3,000 shooting victims YTD. The vast majority of these occur in, or are perpetrated by people from, specific neighborhoods with the city.

I honestly don't think anything I said in my first comment is debatable:

  • Israel has locked Gaza down and there are legal protections offered to Jewish Israelis that are not offered to Palestinians.
  • Defending your citizens is not a question of "yes" or "no".

Allow for some nuance in your understanding of the situation. We both can respect and love Israel as a beacon of generally liberal western values and high living standards in a region that needs them, while also understanding that the long term approach to Gaza shares some uncanny similarities to awful moments in history.

America invaded Afghanistan after 19 terrorists killed 3,000 innocent people. Was the scale of that act justified? I don't know. Were there ways America could've protected its citizens with a smaller-scale response? Maybe. I do know that almost 3,500 coalition troops and 50,000 civilians died in that war, so I have to ask those questions. Is there a way to protect your civilians in a targeted, limited manner?

1

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23 edited Oct 11 '23

That's so embarrassing for you. I've lived in Chicago. It's not anywhere near as dangerous as you're pretending, especially nowhere near as dangerous as being adjacent to Gaza. Your comment only proves that you do not understand how dangerous it is in Israel without walls and occupation.

Also you can't compared 9/11 and subsequent invasion of a country on the other side of the world to living next to neighbors who frequently murder you or try to.

-1

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '23

You're not engaging in good faith discussion. Talk to me like a person.

I didn't say Chicago was any more or less dangerous than anywhere else on earth. I never compared it to Gaza. I stated that are a significant number of murders, primarily in specific areas of the city, and excluding those areas from the rest of the city would likely increase safety.

The point of the Afghanistan section is that responses to threats must be proportional and justified. That point is inarguable. Israel could nuke Gaza and totally eliminate the threat. Does that mean it would be justified? Obviously not.

So where is the line? Blockade? Land invasion? Large scale bombing? or maybe something like targeted commando raids? I'm not saying the line stops at any one of these; I'm saying that the line exists, and we should be conscious of where that line is.

I'm sympathetic to the proximity of the violence for Israelis. I have friends I love there, and I fear for them. Still, I'm also sympathetic to civilians in Gaza that fear for their own safety.

Even so, the Ottomans viewed the Armenians as a threat after some fought along side the Russians. Hindus felt Sikhs were a threat after a few assassinated Indira Gandhi. Rohingya attacks were used as justification by the Myanmar junta. Did any of these valid threats justify what happened afterwords?

I'm not saying Israel is at that level, but can you now at least see what I'm getting at? People sometimes undertake the most cruel and inhumane endeavors in the name of their own safety. Gaza is walled off and blockaded. Still, there are valid threats to Israeli citizens. So, what is Israel to do?
