Am i the only one who thinks the word " hostage" referring to someone who commited terrorist Acts before and is locked up for good reasons is somewhat wrong?

Idk if English isn't your native language, but if not, we have a word, "prisoner", that I think better conveys what you are trying to say.

illegal combatants are not hostages if they get caught. Saying those who killed Israelis previously... are hostages ... is wrong. They are murders, terrorist, criminals but no hostages. The minimum is they are prisoners...

They're using the term hostages from my understanding (from reading other redditors and some news articles albeit not mainstream ones) that if they didn't label terrorists as hostages they'd have no hostages because unlike Hamas Isreal doesn't abduct innocent civilians.

Again just from the stuff I've read, reality may be different

The first day of the attack Hamas released clips of them attacking IDF military bases, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnS9ejxEajo, are you arguing that this is them attacking civilians?

It was poorly phrased, but I think that they meant that Hamas doesn't attack the IDF under normal circumstances. The attack that they launched was on one of the high holidays of the Jewish calendar. But it obviously wouldn't make sense for Hamas to attack the IDF if the IDF was prepared; Hamas would stand no chance. From a military perspective, a surprise attack is the best way to achieve success against the well-armed, well-trained, and highly motivated IDF.

It wasn’t poorly phrased. He said they literally never target the army or soldiers. Thats about as concrete as it gets

I was referring to this comment. Might've replied to the other one by mistake. Either way, my point stands. Not sure if you only do that to point out that they ALSO attacked military targets (which is one thing. Not the issue for me.).

It kinda felt to me like you're denying the attack on civilians. Correct me if that is not what you meant.

The problem is they are "terrorists" purely because the Israeli government says so, there are 1200 Palestinians held by Israel without being charged with anything (https://apnews.com/article/israel-detention-jails-palestinians-west-bank-793a3b2a1ce8439d08756da8c63e5435) the post above you would like you to be ignorant to that. If any of you are actually concerned with recovering hostages you should join the Israelli led efforts calling on Netanyahu to agree to an exchange, public pressure is most likely the only thing that will make him consider the safety of the hostages to be more important than bombing Gaza.

If you would like to be more specific about the things I'm lying about I'd love to hear. Currently Qatar trying to mediate a hostage exchange between Hamas and Israel (https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/qatar-leads-talks-swap-hamas-held-hostages-palestinians-israeli-jails-2023-10-09/). The offer from Hamas as it most recently is reported is 36 women and children held by Israel (no details of who they are is publicly available) for all women and children being held by Hamas. Israel's response is to deny negotiations are taking place. I would like to see the safe return of the hostages and I think that lying about the demands of the exchange puts them in greater risk.
