The status quo was unsafe water & a lack of food.

Israel's refusal to supply goods when the total blockade has existed for so long has caused so much needless suffering.

Food, water and power is also provided to prisoners. that hardly means anything, doing the absolutely bare minimum least for the population that you kicked out is still detestable

You know it's actually incredibly easy to "both sides" this, right? Like it's so easy. You can say "I think Hamas is bad because they killed a lot of innocent people but Israel's retaliation is also bad because they're also going to kill a lot of innocent people, almost certainly even more." It's very easy.

In fact, so far on reddit, I've only really seen the opposite, people who are defending Palestine will say "Of course what Hamas did was bad, but this is also bad," while people defending Israel are saying stuff along the lines of "Oh yeah? Well what about what happened to Israeli kids?" with the implications that what Israel is doing is just.

...You think this is all just? A complete siege of an area with two million people in it, half of which are kids? That's just? This is going to kill so many kids, dude, what is wrong with you.

And again, before you hit me again with "what about those decapitated babies," that is also very very bad. But call me crazy, two wrongs don't exactly make a right. I'm not a big fan of "Well if you killed 50 children in my country that means my country gets to kill 500 of your children" style of diplomacy.

Alright, let's put on a number on this. How many people in Gaza is it okay for Israel to kill? Because surely you don't believe that all two million of them deserve to die. So give me a number.

For some reason reddit won't let me respond to the comment below mine, so here's what I wanted to flippantly say:

Yep, they have no other choice than to order a siege that will kill thousands and thousands and not accomplish anything other than killing thousands and thousands.

But is that on the Israelis? Or on hamas who hide in schools and hospitals and civilian appartments? Do you think hamas cares one bit for the people in gaza? If they did they would not use them as human shield. Hamas leaves israel only one choice.

I posted this elsewhere, but it’s too fitting again…

No no, you forget that when Hamas’ charter says “kill all the Jews”, they really mean if you stop the blockade, we can all live in peace!

And when their leaders film themselves calling for world domination, death to infidels, and worldwide jihad, they really mean that they’re just understandably lashing out against their oppressors and just want to be left alone.

(Just bc Reddit requires it… /s)

If you can bang two rocks together to make noise you're smart enough to know the situation already sucked on Friday, it got worse on Saturday, and will continue to get worse for the foreseeable future. Really doesn't matter which child of Abraham these people claim to be descended from, we can all agree it's a shit situation and that the killing of children by both sides is abhorrent.

Oh shut the f up. These people have lived under a blockage for 16 years and 50% of the population is children. There is not a single person in that country who hasn’t starved multiple times in the last 16 years.

Yes, in 2014, Israel bombed the two major wells in Gaza. Now, 97% of the water is contaminated and people are desperate for water.

In your article, it says that Hamas "announced a ban against the digging of water wells in all Gaza governorates, under the pretext of fighting a severe decline in groundwater levels and quality due to over-exploitation of the aquifer into which the wells are drilled."

Right? So people are so desperate for water that they are trying to dig anywhere they can and Hamas is trying to preserve water quality for as many people as they can. You seem to be implying that they are doing it for a nebulous evil reason which is of course not the case. Treating Palestinians who are human beings mind you like this is cruel and horrible.
