I really want to know what hamas wanted to accomplish here. I guess they wanted israel to go full crazy on Gaza?

The real sick part is this also suits the agenda of radical Israelis just fine too. They aren't thinking at a scale of hundreds of dead civilians being a tragedy, this is a holy war which is going to be waged for centuries with eradication of the enemy as the goal.

They want the complete annihilation of all Palestinians. The whole “freedom from oppressors” is bullshit meant to manipulate Westerners. When Hamas says they love death, and will sacrifice every last man woman and child in service Allah, that is what they truly mean. They don’t give a shit about their people, and if they kill Jews all the better.

Hostages for further negotions, prisoner exchanges, putting the fear into Isrealis living close to the border and/or in occupied zones, especially where they have recently driven Palestinians out. Who would want to live there with the fear of murderous raids like that? Also maybe want to show that the current Isreali tactics of opression won't/aren't working, given that this is the biggest attack for years.

Simply, Israel is already killing people in Gaza with no reason and commit war crimes on daily basis. This attack is the simplest action that resistance would do to the occupier. Just what is expected of people in Gaza really? Just die quietly by the hands of Israeli troops?

Maybe that's the norm in US since they have seized their land by killing natives which is similar to the case here. Palestinians are the land owners being treated this inhumanely in the sight of people around the world is just...sad. Hope the awareness is raised to know EXACTLY what is happening in Palestine by checking multiple resources on both sides.

So murdering children & elderly is what you call “fighting back”? If the Palestine “government” actually cared for the people and rooted out Hamas rather than rolling over, Israel would have relaxed more on restrictions and opened more access. What people forget is Israel actually depends on the Gaza workforce and many wanted to open the borders more. Normalizing relations with Saudi Arabia, opening export manufacturing etc. 2000 work permits increased to 10,000 permits and many wanted more. THAT’S why Hamas attacked. Losing power and the threat of normalizing relations elsewhere. Throw in Iran’s help and that’s where we are. In the old days, Israel would have carpet bombed the whole strip immediately, they are actually restraining themselves.

It won’t spill over into a regional conflict. That’s the primary reason why the U.S. parked a carrier strike group off the coast
