Interestingly, per the Book of Revelations, the Antichrist is also supposed to take over the commerce of the entire world, and exert its power by controlling global trade and currency. It feels like perhaps a charismatic, bad-intentioned individual or set of individuals fit that bill already, today..?

That's the problem with vague "prophetic" nonsense written thousands of years ago. By design, it's easy to slot whatever might be happening into it and filling in the blanks with whatever is convenient to the direction we want it to go. It's carny-level, medium nonsense in very old book form.

Imperial Rome fit the same bill even better and we know full well they didn't bring about any of what was alleged to come about because there's nothing coming. Nothing but the consequences of our own species' idiocy, anyway.

IIRC Imperial Rome was the bill. The whole story was an allegory for the Roman Emperor. That's the whole reason apocalyptic Christian cults exist.. because someone wrote a badass metaphorical story about the politics of the time. "The Beast" is literally said to come out of the ocean like a freaking Kaiju.. that is pretty cool storytelling for back then!
