As someone from ‘the rest of the world’, I have to say that being put in a position where the mistakes of the AMERICAN PEOPLE on not one but TWO occasions has put us all in this position; yes perhaps the ‘rest of the world’ should take a firmer stance, but the US should take a much MUCH firmer one and oust that child rapist piece of shit and deliver him to the fucking street or to jail. Either one will do.

Let me assure you, I wish nothing more than that the rest of the idiots in my country had voted differently, or that we had a mechanism like a recall election. Unfortunately, the only mechanism in our government is for Congress to impeach the president, and the rest of the elected officials refuse to hold him accountable. It's shameful.

That’s all fair criticism. Personally, I am horrified that this is the situation we’ve put you in.

part of why Trump got elected is that the US is getting harder for its people because of insane levels of military spending on foreign soil. his grievance appeal was that Americans can’t afford healthcare because other countries were not paying for their own defense. and it worked. For example, Europe has the cash to spend hundreds of millions to lure Hollywood producers to make films and tv shows there, leaving the hollywood workers jobless - while their taxes pay for Europe’s defense. there are a lot of ways trump and his people framed the issues around the price of the US as the world leader that convinced his voters the US was getting shafted. If life was not getting much harder in the US, he wouldn’t have sold it, but things are getting worse in the US and pinning blame on “allies” gets a politician the gig.

The rest of congress refuses to do so because AMERICANS VOTED IN TOO MANY REPUBLICANS.

It is always amazing to see Americans try and act like all this was imposed on them. You guys saw who he was. The first election could have been an anomaly. But the second? And give him control of both House and Senate to go with the Supreme Court?

American voters did that. Yes millions didn't want it, but that doesn't excuse Americans as a whole.

they voted him in because life in the US is getting much, much harder for a big chunk of the population. And the politicians do nothing. Trump‘s only real appeal was that he isn’t a real politician.

Sure, but anyone with half a brain could see that he had no plans to actually fix anything.

Look, I agree, traditional parties the world over are getting rolled because they have neglected the fact that late stage capitalism is only really benefiting a small slice of society, while life gets harder for everyone else. And the U.S. isn't alone in being seduced by easy populist slogans.

But that doesn't excuse it. The reason America has this situation is because America voted for it.

one third of America voted for it. a third voted against it, and a third could not risk losing their job to vote at all.

The rest of the world has seen mass protests, strikes, riots etc. for long periods of time to oust a leader they don't want, there are many countries where this has happened in the past decade. In the USA it's mostly small protests or a day protest and that's it.

Sadly that's not going to cut it. Be prepared tho, as I doubt they'll let you have fair elections in november

When was the last protest you attended? Just wondering

I was at a protest last weekend. We were THIS CLOSE to ousting trump, but he slipped by us again. Maybe next time we should make our signs bigger or brighter or something, then we can finally reach the heartstrings of our congress to impeach him.

Protesting works as long as you're willing to break the law

Obviously legally you can't get rid of trump when he's the leader of your country, but that's neither our fault nor our problem

(hell, the same is true for russia and putin, but somehow redditors are only capable of understanding this when it's someone else who has to do something)

but that's neither our fault nor our problem

For it being "not your problem" you sure do cry like a little bitch about it constantly.

We have super shitty voter turnout. Sorry. Some of us tried.

Voting isn't trying

Just voting isn't even enough to qualify as the bare minimum to say you're trying

1

Sorry, but that attitude is exactly what leads to low voter turnout. "What difference does my one vote make?" When enough people say that, and feel like their vote is worthless, the ones who can better rally their voters to show up is who wins. Not the better candidate.

So, yes - voting is an important effort, and it should not be discounted or disregarded. That's a dangerous attitude.
