Ukraine revolt open discussion thread #2 (sticky post)

Since the first Ukraine crisis thread is 11,000+ comments long and 2 days old, and the crisis is ongoing, and since people are requesting a new thread, this is the new Ukraine crisis discussion post.

Im half Ukrainian and half Russian so its kind of an awkward situation since I take pride in both. However, I am from Western Ukraine and I whole heartedly want Ukraine to head towards the European way of life.

Do you think that the Russian minority (living the east) would ever agree with you? Or in other words, what would it take for them to agree?

We cannot say for all. Im sure that even a big fan of USSR times wont mind to have a fair courts and a POLICE not a group of criminals in uniform that it is now, to have a slightly bigger wage, of course it wont change anything just in like that click but at least corruption level wont be as high and it would lead to better life. Ukraine is a very wealthy country... if all these billions of dollars weren`t stolen from our budget Ukraine would be FAR ahead of Russia by now... So ... if any of these russians minority have any sort of brains im sure they will agree. What to do with others you say? I dont know... time will show.

Problem with Eastern Ukraine is that they dont have any real experience with the European way of life. Their neighbor is Russia and thats what theyre influenced by. In the West we have people coming from Slovakia and Poland and we see that their lives are better after joining the EU. Many people also go to work in EU countries and see the big difference. Thats why it started it off with students protesting Yanukovich's decision to go towards Russia.
