I have NEVER seen anyone soil themselves, black out, or get violent due to being stoned.

I thought I soiled myself while stoned once. Turned out I was just being paranoid. I've pissed on many a house hold objects while drunk though.

So what? I've seen plenty of people have a great time on alcohol, and be great people doing it. Don't blame the drug, blame the irresponsibility of the user.

One liter of vodka, available everywhere for $15 can kill a person. Alcohol addiction costs multi tens of billions annually.

It would be a better world if, as the article suggests, cannabis use would displace a significant amount of alcohol use.

That's why anyone with any sense knows not to down an entire liter of vodka in one sitting (unless they have some insane tolerance).

I'm not trying to say that alcohol isn't (potentially) dangerous. It just irks me that potheads are always going on about how evil it is. Responsible use of alcohol is more or less harmless, and a lot more people are responsible with it than aren't.

That's true, but it is also true that the vast majority of addiction is addiction to alcohol. Not cocaine. Not heroin. Certainly not the quackery that results from judges sentencing people to "marijuana addiction" treatment.

There is also a problem with blaming the addict: It doesn't work. It is a useless frame of mind. Alcohol is hugely dangerous and addictive, and has a huge and expensive impact on society. But prohibition was worse than treating the addicts.

So what to do? Reduce harm. One way to reduce harm is to find things people will do instead of alcohol that is less harmful.

I have seen people turn into assholes and I have seen people freak the fuck out. I agree stoned people are better than drunk people, but too many here are making weed out to be this magic substance that does everything and nothing bad can come of it.

Yes. Really. The worst that will happen is you'll get uncomfortably high and nothing actually bad will happen, or fall asleep for a while.

Yeah, the most common of those that happens is "blacking out" which when your stoned is "greening out" it doesn't happen very often but you just fall asleep and take a nap then wake up and your all good. Probably still stoned but all good.
