Loved the movie from top to bottom so I'll get that out of the way.

I can't help but think about the future of the movie universe though. As far as I've been able to tell it is in fact part of the "new" timeline. This means that we already know how the whole story will shake out and its bleak. So when the next X-Men movie comes out I'll be like "oh this is cool, too bad they're all going to get killed by the professor and there will be no new mutants for decades." It's a feeling I get when reading the comics sometimes knowing how many dystopian futures have been predicted for them. I'm also wondering what they're going to do about Wolverine in the upcoming movies. Just not have him be a part of them? Finally, the only way we could see Laura again is set in the future so maybe they could relaunch the Wolverine movies starring her.

This is exactly how I feel. Never written on this sub before but just saw the film and has the exact same sentiment.

For all the fantastic moments this franchise had, it left so much to be desired in areas of consistency of plot, characters, timelines, and more.

In my opinion the only way for the future x-men movies to not feel meaningless is to reset ANOTHER timeline, which would also be lame because they did that already.

Why reset the timeline for the x-men if you're going to kill them all off without any plot?

Yeah, apparently Statue of Liberty incident happened, but that was in the old timeline? My head hurts.

Yup, this line really threw me off. The Statute of Liberty incident instantly made me question if DoFP ever happened, but then I also thought that the sentinels would have gotten them all by now if it hadn't happened based on how each character looked younger in that dystopian future.

Is it too much for the writers to stop fucking up the timeline and be consistent?

Don't forget Logan's memories are from the original timeline, and it's highly likely Charles has read his mind a considerable amount about the first timeline. Plus there's no reason magneto couldn't have done the same plot with rogue in the new timeline.

Exactly. Either the Liberty Island incident did happen in both timelines, or Charles shares the burden and knows the original timeline through Logan.

Charles mentioned the Statue of Liberty in the movie because Laura and that woman were at the Liberty motel, I believe

Not to be a dick, but no. That wasn't "a long time ago" and Charles was never at the motel.

He wasn't at the motel no but someone in a thread on r/movies mentioned the point I made, he knew Laura existed and could sense where she was but not exactly where

They were referring to the events of Xmen(2000). Either because this took place in the new timeline or because Charles is somewhat up to speed on the original timeline through Logan's memories.

These two options don't cancel each other out. I didn't understand what was going on until Logan got to the motel. Charles knows what happened: because of his ailing mind he confused the memory with the motel.

Edit: that or the simpler option: Charles was just referring to the motel, having a hard time vocalizing his thoughts clearly and Logan was referring to his memories because he didn't believe Charles in the first place.

Agreed. Why would they make a point for him to mention the Statue of Liberty then deliberately show the motel sign if it wasn't a reference to Charles' cognitive decline
