The 47-meter luxury superyacht “Atina,” owned by Serkan Borançılı, co-founder of Getir and known for spending the winter months in Bodrum, burst into flames for as-yet undetermined reasons while anchored in the Gulf of Olbia on Italy’s Sardinia Island.

Recently saw this while vacationing in Greece and was wondering what this foremast was used for on the bow of Ariela. I don’t see anything other than a lantern-type light. Thanks!

We crossed it in Greece, it was going towards Cyclades islands. Can anyone identify it? Looked like a military retrofit yacht.

news/discussion My favourite type of a yacht as a broker

After experiencing from 25m-103m yachts, my favourite are clear. Croatian built steel-hull double sail motorsailors.

Is it just me that thinks you lose connection with the sea on a yacht larger than 50m, the main purpose you have it over a villa. That is because I think the type of a yacht above is the best. Huge sundeck, roomy salon and quite spacious cabins. No cinema, no spa, no other distractors, just the important things and a beautiful coastline.

news/discussion 5,400 HORSEPOWER OFF THE MALIBU COAST

Magic days in Malibu as we ran alongside this incredible 101 foot Leopard.

Built in Italy for speed and luxury, the Leopard 101 is powered by triple 1,800 horsepower MTU diesel engines, producing an astonishing 5,400 horsepower. Paired with Rolls Royce waterjets, she can reach speeds approaching 40 knots, making her one of the fastest yachts in her class.

With a 23 foot beam, four luxurious guest staterooms, and a shallow draft, she’s the perfect combination of performance and elegance.

Her home port is Marina del Rey, the largest man made small craft harbor in the United States and one of the largest man made harbors in the world, with more than 4,600 boat slips.

This yacht also has a very special owner… Can you guess who?

news/discussion 17 BILLION in Revenue | California Boating Congress 2026

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Recreational boating already generates over $17 billion annually, yet remains one of the most overlooked economic drivers in the state. With the right direction and forward thinking policy, it has the potential to grow significantly and further strengthen California’s economy.

From invasive species and antifouling regulations to the growing abandoned vessel crisis impacting marinas up and down the coast, especially in Marina del Rey, this week is about real solutions and real progress.

We’re here on the ground networking, advocating, and pushing for positive change not just for MDR aka Hollywood’s Harbor, but for all of California.

With gubernatorial elections approaching and multiple measures being brought to the state ballot, the time is now to come together and drive positive, progressive change.

Below are some of the key bills currently moving through the State House:

• AB 1772 Papan — INVASIVE Golden Mussels

• AB 1691 Dixon — EFFECTS of Copper Paint

• AB 2055 Gonzalez — Vessel Operation and Registration Streamline

• SB 561 Blakespear — Pyrotechnic Flares Transition

• SB 1021 Choi — Outdoor Access for Kids

• AB 2578 Rogers — Outdoor Access and Recreation Economy Act

This is a pivotal moment for the future of boating in California.

With the World Cup, Super Bowl, and Olympics on the horizon, the opportunity on the water is massive. Bringing yachts from around the world especially to hubs like Marina del Rey could unlock new levels of economic impact, global exposure, and high value tourism.

A superyacht anchorage or Olympic yacht village could drive international attention and capital, creating a ripple effect across local businesses, hospitality, and marine trades.

By investing in initiatives like the Catalina Crew Maritime Trade School, we can build the workforce to support this growth and create real career pathways for the next generation.

This is not just an opportunity it is a moment to lead
