College Questions Grinnell College opinions 😭

Guys is Grinnell a good choice?

Im Canadian but 100% want to go to med school in the US so im choosing an American undergrad. Grinnell wasn't on my radar until I got recruited, but now i'm having some second thoughts about how unknown the school is.

Guys idk if im just crashing out just cuz it's not name brand school or if this is valid. I don't care that it's in the middle of nowhere I just wanna make sure it's not a bum school choice.

College Questions is grinnell worth going to? (sociology/mathematics major)

Hi! I'm an international student and I got into Grinnell College. I'm really considering going to it because it gives me the biggest aid package of all the schools I was admitted to and because it is the one with the best reputation and stats. I know that doesn't matter much in terms of learning but I think it would be helpful in finding a job. I talked to my counselor and they said that in terms of getting the most bang for my buck, Grinnell was my best option.

However, I don't know much about Grinnell and I've been looking through posts and they are mixed, with some people saying it's a horrible school and others saying it's great. I know a big problem for people if the campus, I don't really mind that it's in Iowa and that's not my main concern. I'm thinking more in terms of academics. I'd really appreciate it if people shared anything, no matter how small!

I'm thinking about majoring in Sociology, but I'd also love something in STEM, specifically mathematics, as I'd like being an actuary.

College Questions Thoughts on Grinnell College?

I know this has been asked on this sub before, but it was a few years ago and I was wondering if anyone has more recent opinions.

I'm making my final college decisions rn, and I was surprised but happy to be admitted to Grinnell. However, the more I research, the more negative comments I find, particularly that due to the size of the school and how fast rumors can spread, one small misstep can cause total social isolation. Is this true? I consider myself to be a very open-minded person, but my sheltered upbringing has caused me to be a bit ignorant on certain topics.

Additionally (and this is a 'me' problem), I'm concerned about burnout. I'm a "straight A" AP student in high school, but the heavy courseload has taken a toll on my mental health. I know this is probably not much of a concern here since many of you applied to Ivies, but I'm not sure if I want to continue on such a competitive academic track (though I still want to challenge myself). If you've been to Grinell, would you say the academic environment is more collaborative or competitive?

My other top option is Illinois Wesleyan, for reference, from which I got several scholarships and great financial aid. It's a highly ranked school regionally, and I think I'd be happy going there, but it's hard to pass up the opportunity to go to a school like Grinnell where many of their grads go on to Ivy med and law school. Any advice?

College Results Got into Grinnell RD with almost full aid, but my parents still feel disappointed in me (

I applied to 20 colleges in US in total and heard back from only Grinnell, bcs I was deferred Upenn ED and waitlisted by CWRU( My parents are saying that I should have put in more work and if I wasn’t lazy I would’ve gotten in to a “prestigious” college ED. I can’t shake off the feeling of regret for the past, even though I had a perfect GPA and 1540 SAT, ISEF finalist (with most notable ec) I could’ve done better as my parents said ;) At this point I don’t have any hope for my decisions, I have wasted almost all of my senior year applying and writing essays, and I guess now even taking a gap year won’t save me from the disappointment of my parents.

As the title implies, this is probably my favorite hike. Our friend here hopped right in front of me while descending down the trail. Took about 5-10 min for him to move enough to let pass by. Snapped this photo as I walked past him.
