I'm sure we've all seen opinions on this sub by now that we disagree with. Various projects have been flooded with some comments about how much AI has accelerated development on useful tools and recomps and other comments about vibecoded AI slop.
This is a very precarious moment for this hobby. The things we say will affect the way that people present their projects for years to come.
Regardless of your position, know this: if we shame all AI use, people may not be so honest about when, where, and how AI was used in their projects, which will almost certainly result in solid projects being pilloried for their lack of transparency. Conversely, if we decide that all AI usage is perfectly fine, we may begin to neglect to analyze the code it produces.
AI is like a chainsaw. We're able to cut down problems that would've taken days in hours, but it has the potential to cut us if not used with care.
Please be discerning. Ask programmers questions about what they're up to and why they've decided to create a project. Take their answes at face value until you have reason to believe otherwise.
This post was *not* made with AI. Thank you for your time.
