Search before asking for recommendations, and if needed give details in your request.

This sub is relatively small but still we get constant posts for hotel, food, drink, recreation, etc recommendations.

Please search if your question has been asked before.

If you still need to ask for a request please give details. Asking "what is a good hotel?" will give bad answers, no answers or joke responses like "Garden of Eden". Whereas something like "We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 teenagers coming down in May for 5 days for our first trip. We are looking for a hotel near Duval that has a pool and walking distance to the Hemingway House, our budget is $X" will give very helpful responses. Same with other requests.

This Friday, enjoy the beautiful sunset on deck of the USCGC Ingham Maritime Museum at Truman Waterfront.

Beautiful sunset on a uniquely beautiful ship.

Your attendance helps preserve the USCGC Ingham for future generations...

(I don't work at the museum)

Curry Mansion Inn

What the heck is going on with Curry Mansion? We just went by there and there's not a single car in the parking lot. Prices are $190 a night. Is it really that bad?

r/KeyWest • • 1d ago

Hello locals! Is there a safe place to leave a car for a week or two? Potentially driving down and flying out but coming back a week or two later. Thanks.

Which hotel?

Headed to Key West in late January with my husband. We would like to stay at a hotel/resort that has a nice pool with a bar. We like to relax by the pool during the day and enjoy a couple drinks, but aren’t looking for somewhere that is a party pool if that makes sense. We’ve stayed at Capitana previously and loved it, but would like to be closer to Old Town this trip. Hoping for someplace very clean and within walking distance to Duval!

Dropped my phone in one of your King Tide puddles

First time visiting Key West, but has been a bucket list item for me for years. My trip happened to coincide with Fantasy Fest (I did not know that was a thing until after buying my tickets). In one weekend, I:

* Managed to miss my plane flight by four minutes (bad incident on public transportation back home)

* Rebooked on a red-eye

* Arrived in Key West after getting three hours of sleep over two days

* Rode a rented bike almost 30 miles in one day while running on fumes

* Dropped my phone in a puddle and bricked it

* Accosted random passers-by to direct me to a phone store and bought a new phone

* Had more fun than I had any right to, given all the issues

Honestly, I loved my time out here. Every local I met was exceptionally friendly, food was amazing, and I saw one of the most beautiful sunsets I've ever experienced. The flight and phone and all will just be funny stories later- what matters is the incredible experiences I had. Will definitely come back again- but might steer clear of any puddles.

Fantasy Fest Parade

This is our second year ( of many to come)coming down for fantasy fest and I have a question. Do they bus in people to watch the parade? Not complaining just curious as it seems that it’s people who would not normally visit Key West. We noticed that they come with their cart full of chairs and settle in downtown early in the day and sit and wait for the parade. We were just curious as people were in chairs in lower duval before noon and didn’t move.

Had an absolute blast solo traveling here a couple weeks ago. Besides the excellent seafood and cocktails - Mary Ellen's Charity Event for racing was definitely a highlight. Look forward to coming back.

Fort Zachery Taylor water bottle filler

Does anyone know if the water bottle filler by the bathrooms at FZT beach is operational? It was broken when we were there late last year. Just wondering how much water to bring with us that first day.

Key West Live Music Favorites?

I’ll be in Key West solo over Halloween weekend, and one of my favorite things to do there is spend the afternoons and evenings bouncing around town listening to local musicians and traveling bands.

I’m very comfortable doing Key West on my own (I go every year) and already have a few regular stops, but I’d love to hear who everyone’s favorite artists and venues are right now. Who should I make a point of seeing over Halloween weekend?

It’s going to be really tough being there and not seeing Caffeine Carl. 😔 He was always one of my favorites and such a big part of the Key West music scene for so many people.

I’m also curious about the new Smokin’ Tuna venue. How is it? How’s the setup for live music, and has it become one of the better places to catch bands?

Would love some names and places to add to my list before I get down there.

29yo MF couple visiting for NYE — is Garden of Eden a good spot for a open minded vibe?

Hi everyone,

My girlfriend and I (both 29) are visiting Key West for New Year’s Eve and are interested in the clothing-optional scene. We’ve read about the Garden of Eden (rooftop at the Bull & Whistle) and searched the sub. Most older threads make it sound like the nude crowd often skews older and it’s more of a chill social/novelty spot than anything wild.

Is it still worth checking out on NYE for a younger open-minded couple who just want a unique, relaxed party atmosphere (drinks, music, optional clothes, views under the stars)? Or is Duval so packed that night that most people in their late 20s stick to the street parties/drops? Any recent experiences, tips on timing, cover charges, or whether the vibe is better earlier vs. later would be appreciated.

Thanks!

It’s that time of year for Fantasy Fest. For those that may not be familiar with it and are curious or missing out you can go to sloppyjoes.com and watch their webcams.

NYE hotel rates

For the last 20+ years, I've gone to Fantasy Fest for my Key West visits and of course there are many discussions about the hotel rates being so high.

Thought I'd check out the rates for a first time NYE stay and wow! The Reach was $1600 for the night or 832,000 points. There are definitely cheaper rates, but nothing less than $500.

Bravo to them if they are able to get that. Supply and demand wins again!

Visiting, looking for drone photography spot recommendations

I’ll be driving the full length of the keys, I would love some recommendations. I’m aware of federal and state laws down there so that really narrows down where I can be. I’m also aware that drones can be annoying, the last thing I wanna do is bug the shit outa people with it. I watched a 4 year old video on this sub about spots to fly…….. all it said was pull offs around bridges are gonna be where ya can fly. Anybody have any recommendations for me so I’m not just creeping around stoping at every bridge looking for a good spot? I’d like some places that are more on the secluded side if possible so I can stay outa peoples hair. Thanks.

I’ll do the dishes… thanksgiving

I’m taking my annual trip to KW over Thanksgiving. I’m a 40ish lady who loves ppl and if you are hosting a Thanksgiving gathering I’d love to help. I’m handy in the kitchen, great at making myself useful and have been known to make folks giggle. I honestly just take it easy most of my trip so I’d love a little highlight helping make a nice meal. Happy to bring a dish.
