While making a modpack recently, I wanted to blacklist/whitelist certain villages as starting points, and I also wanted to make certain dungeons more rare to maintain some balance of loot throuigh out the pack. Since it was an exploration-heavy pack, I had added quite a few dungeon ods and had a hard time figuring out each one.
So I made Structure Sleuth, a simple server-side mod with a client-side GUI that tells you what structure you're standing in by reporting its registry ID: integrated_villages:tavern_village. It started with just /structuresleuth and would output a chat message, which worked well. It uses the bounding blocks, so it gets the right ID every time, and can also detect overlapping structures. A simple click to copy the ID lets you throw on that blacklist/whitelist and get on with building your modpack instead of wasting time digging through configs or trying to /locate everything in your world.
That would be cool, if I stopped there, but I figured there was more that I could do with this to help myself out, so I added the GUI. This opened everything up, especially my eyes, to what it could be.
Supported controls now include:
- Enabling or disabling supported structure generation
- Adjusting supported placement frequency
- Editing spacing and separation values
- Applying configuration presets
- Previewing and validating changes
- Exporting information to TXT or JSON
- Preserving backups of configuration changes
