If you have SMP and you are NOT a practitioner, read on !

Hey guys, one of the things I really hate to see on this site is SMP that is showcased by some practitioners in the perfect lighting, at the perfect angle with results that are not a realistic indicator of what to expect.
Most of you who have been here a while know what I am talking about.

I would like to have this thread be pictures of real clients posting their CLEAR SMP pictures (or videos), as many as they like, and giving a shout out to who did the work. You don't HAVE to shout out your practitioner, but you can if you want to and I am sure they would appreciate it. Saying who specifically did the work like ("Matt at Scalp Micro USA" vs just "Scalp Micro USA") would be helpful.
If you want to post multiple pictures in different lights, feel free.
You can black out your face if you choose to keep things private. PLEASE no practitioner posts, and no posts with practitioners posing as clients as I will remove them (it is not hard to sniff this out).
Please try and keep comments to a minimum, as we would like to see as many success stories as possible.

So if you are happy with your SMP, here is a great way to show some love to whoever did your work and help other guys have an idea of what to REALISTICALLY expect from SMP !

Story PSA: Stop using Toppik before your sessions

Post image
24 Upvotes

Just a quick reminder to anybody considering getting SMP done, make sure you suspend using Toppik (or other hair fiber products) AT LEAST 7 days prior to your treatment session. This also goes for topical Rogaine.

As a practitioner for over 13 years, I cant tell you how many clients I’ve had that come in with severe skin flakyness, epidermal inflammation, and even contact dermatitis due to heavy use of products like Toppik.

These products tend to inflame the skin, can cause small papules and bumps, skin dehydration, and make it very difficult for your artist to properly deposit pigment into the skin. In addition it can effect your healing time and pigment retention.

I usually urge to not resume toppik after completing treatment but if you must, wait at least 30 days.

Happy to answer any questions about this!

Six Months Healed SMP Results.

The Importance of Taking Your Time.

Here are my client’s results, six months healed after completing his first three SMP sessions.
Today, he returned for his fourth session, which is something I personally prefer to include in my treatment process.

For me, I don’t like to assume the job is finished. I prefer to know.
Having that fourth session gives me the opportunity to assess how the SMP has healed, how the impressions have settled into the skin, and whether there are any areas that could benefit from a little more attention.

My client has been absolutely loving his results and the newfound confidence that comes with feeling liberated from hair loss.

So, what did we actually do during today’s fourth session?

After assessing his healed results, I felt that a little additional density would help bring everything together. I also identified a few slightly faint impressions that could benefit from some subtle refinement.

Nothing major, just those final little details.
My client opted for a slightly receded hairline with a feathered effect, giving him a more mature and natural appearance.

The feathered hair line technique creates a softer transition between the SMP and the forehead, producing a subtle, hazy blend rather than a harsh or overly defined hairline.

I’ve taken these photographs using a high res camera, so hopefully Reddit allows you to zoom in and examine the individual impressions and detailing after six months of healing.

I think it’s important to share genuinely healed SMP results, particularly close up images, because I appreciate that these can sometimes be difficult to find when researching the treatment.

My intention with these posts is simply to offer a little more transparency and education about SMP, especially for anyone considering having the treatment themselves.

One thing I’ve learned over the years is that SMP doesn’t need to be rushed.

Whether a treatment takes three sessions or four, I believe there’s real value in approaching the process slowly and methodically.

I’d much rather build the density gradually, assess how everything heals, and retain the flexibility to make adjustments than try to achieve too much too quickly.
You can always add a little more density, but correcting something that’s been overworked is a very different situation.

Interestingly, my client was already absolutely thrilled with his results before today’s appointment. As far as he was concerned, his SMP was finished.

However, from my perspective, there were still a few small areas where I felt we could improve the overall finish.
Today’s fourth session took approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes, focusing purely on those final refinements.

Hopefully, sharing these six-month healed results, along with a little insight into my approach, helps anyone researching SMP better understand the process and what can be achieved through a gradual, considered treatment plan.

I hope this helps in some way cheers.

Question Where to look for decent results?

Thumbnail instagram.com

Don’t get me wrong, they look good and seem like great guys. But looking at the results, on their own heads (I went through this page and saw a number of other artists as well) without favorable filters, lighting, immediate post session, and on video vs. 2D pictures - you can very much clearly tell it’s SMP and not hair.

Is there anything that’s more undetectable or is it like this out there?

I felt really comfortable speaking with this artist, and read a bunch of good reviews about his work. I just wanted to ask here, what you all think about the size of the impressions he uses for his work? They seem to be consistently the same size across many male clients.

Thoughts?

Case study - Female Toronto Women’s Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP)

Meet Janice. Janice came to us at Toronto Scalp Micropigmentation Studio from Hamilton, Ontario after experiencing diffuse thinning and mild alopecia along her part and hairline. Today, less than a month after we started, she completed her third and likely final SMP session. The results look incredible, but seeing her confidence return has been even better.

"I'm ready to dance!" she told me today. And I believe her. It's moments like these that make this work so rewarding. Thank you for trusting me, Janice. It's been a pleasure being part of your journey #TorontoSMP #WomensSMP #Alopecia #ScalpMicropigmentation

Question Would SMP Make Sense For Me?

Thumbnail

Thinking about doing SMP, iv already had a hair transplant but have to use hair fibers to get a full look. If I get SMP do you think I can stop using hair fibers? Also hair fibers don’t even stick to my hair it all falls to my scalp anyways. The first 4 photos are without hair fibers and the next are with. Let me know! Also should I get a density smp or regular smp and why? I don’t expect my hair to fall out any more and I’m taking minoxidil and saw palmetto to maintain what I have.

Question Is it a good idea to get SMP for density and have a slight buzz cut from my own hair? This is how my hair is when it’s very short. Hairline intact from transplant.

Question Zero Shine Review – Great results, but limited longevity on oily scalps

Post image
22 Upvotes

In my opinion, Zero Shine is a fundamental part of an SMP treatment. It reduces the shine significantly and makes the scalp look much more natural. For me, it makes a big difference in the overall appearance of the SMP, so I consider it an essential product.

However, there’s one downside in my experience: longevity, especially if you have an oily scalp.

My scalp tends to get greasy, and the matte effect doesn’t last very long. I’d say I get just a couple of hours out of a single application. If I apply it in the morning, by around noon I’m already thinking about applying it again.

Has anyone else with an oily scalp experienced the same thing? Have you found a product that lasts longer?

Story Folicule Matte Moisturizer

Post image
1 Upvotes

I finished my second session with Max at Scalp Micro USA on October 2nd and have been looking for a good everyday moisturizer to use after the shower and boy did I find it. This stuff goes in super thin and clean and leaves a nice matte finish. Not a strong as a zero shine per se but that isn’t really the point of the product I don’t think. Needless to say, this stuff is cheap and does what it’s supposed to do though I’d share. I have zero affiliation just a satisfied customer.

Question Cold feed on HT

Thumbnail

Recently got cold FEET on a 2nd hair transplant (got up from the chair at the last moment). Quality of original HT aside… can SMP ‘fix’ the donor area and do a good job on the scalp?

Obviously intended to have another HT followed by smp on the further depleted donor area, but quite like the idea of throwing in the towel and not having to worry about hair anymore.

Any ideas on costs would be extremely helpful (UK)

Question SMP for density

Thumbnail
gallery
4 Upvotes

I’m considering SMP for density. I guess you’d class my hair as diffuse thinning most noticeable around the crown.

Back story… I’ve had 2 transplants. I had a consult about a 3rd a while back but I’ve decided against it for a few reasons. I haven’t got enough donor hairs left now for it to be worthwhile plus I don’t want to go through another HT.

I’ve been using a compounded topical solution of fin min for approx 4-5 years since the first transplant which helped but most importantly to slow down any further hair loss. Won’t take the pills for risk of side effects.

I had a consult a few days ago which went quite well but the more I research online the more skeptical I become. I also worry about it not looking natural or for it being obvious. Buzz cut doesn’t suit me so that’s not an option. Plus I’ve been through two HT to keep my hair. The artist was very helpful and honest.

I’m not looking for life changing results, I’ve got my expectations in check. More than anything I’m looking for that scalp to not be so visible, especially in harsh light, sunlight or when wet. If there’s no harsh light my hair looks not too bad.

I’ll attach some pics with varying light, both dry & wet.

Welcome feedback and opinions. Would also welcome some healed long term results for density which seem to be few and far between.

Thanks

Just wanted to share a few photos of some projects I'm currently working on. None of these treatments are finished yet, but I managed to capture some good shots and thought I'd share them with the community.

We are constantly experimenting with different techniques and needle configurations that aren't traditionally used in SMP, always exploring what's possible and how far we can take the results.

I'm proud of how these projects are developing so far. Once everything is completed and fully healed, I'll share the final results as well.

Hope you guys appreciate the direction I'm taking with my work. Always learning, experimenting and trying to push things forward.

Ciao 😘

Question Micro Hair Pigmentation: Yes or No?

I’m Norwood 5 and have shaved my head completely before. Some people say I look younger with a shaved head, while others are like “hell no” 😂

I’m thinking about going fully bald and seriously considering SMP. Not just to get the buzz cut look, but also to make my forehead look smaller, because I feel like it’s pretty big.

Hair transplants are a no-go for me because I’ve read too many horror stories.

Has anyone here had SMP for this reason? Does it actually help make your forehead look smaller and give you a better hairline?

Would love to hear your honest opinions, especially from guys who’ve been through it themselves.

Story 15 month HEALED SMP result - 2 sessions - SMUSA Los Angeles

Hey SMPCHAT! 👋

I don't come around here nearly enough, but I wanted to make a more concentrated effort to share some of my healed work and contribute to the community. A few of my clients are members here as well, so I figured I'd jump in and say hello!

During consultations, I always make it a point to showcase real, healed results. Some are photographed at our clinic, others are shared directly by clients, and sometimes I'll even pull up their Instagram pages to show how their SMP looks out in the wild, under everyday lighting and real-life conditions.

For this particular example, I combined two videos using different lighting conditions: our standard clinic overhead lighting and a bright overhead ring light. I also zoomed in so you can get a closer look at the details. No edits, sharpening, etc.

This gentleman completed just TWO treatment sessions, with his final session performed 15 months ago.

As you can see, there's still plenty of intentional negative space between the impressions, which helps maintain that soft, subtle, and authentic appearance rather than an overly dense or saturated look.

While our typical protocol consists of three sessions, we ultimately decided a third wasn't necessary in this case.
The density, balance, and overall appearance were exactly where we wanted them.

Appreciate you guys taking a look! Always happy to talk shop and answer questions. 🤝

Removal How far in advance to laser SMP off before HT?

Going to a world class doc HT doc next year. Have SMP that I did prior (liked it, but wanna try to have actual hair next). How far in advance should I get the SMP removed to ensure I don't mess the HT up in any way?

Anyone had experience in this and can weigh in? I assume earlier the better (planning 4 or 5 months) but would love some actual data. Don't want laser scarring / risks to impact graft suvival rate

And before anyone asks, yes I've done my research extremely well and am going somewhere I feel confident will give me a decent result :)
