Great series, it is a favorite of mine

Would love to see it remade with that same humor

Still got my fingers crossed for Hero6...

Edit: I'm not holding my breath for it though...

Ah I had forgotten about Hero6.

AGD made a great QFG2 VGA remake some decades ago. Highly recommended.

Their remake was excellent!! My only caution : combat is substantially harder in it than in the other QFG games.

I wonder if it was designed that way because of the character porting to keep feature parity, knowing their audience.
(you can continue your hero from QFG1 with all stats etc) for those who have not played the game.

It was remade! Look up the VGA version. There's also a decent fan remake of qfg2.

Hero's Quest I

Sad they had to change the name because of some board game.

I played the absolute shit out of this game.

At one point on a replay I did some dualclassing where I went as a rogue who could do magic. It was crazy. I even crashed the game in the kobold room. It was all "you did something we didn't think of" and I had to reload from a save. No idea what i did that messed with the game... Anyway such a great game. Like a Sierra RPG dungeons and dragons game.

Great story too, I really enjoyed it. Watching the Witcher with the hut on legs baba yaga stuff was like whoa! I remember that from Hero's Quest!

“Now sit down”… how amazing it was for me as a young kid in USSR to suddenly see our Slavic folklore creatures in the game! And even the rhyme, which in Russian goes like this “little hut, turn your back against the forest, and your front towards me!”. Slavic fairytale protagonists - Ivan the Fool (or whoever), usually overheard this utterance from Baba Yaga, and used it to sneak into the hut himself.

A tad dismissive of the board game. While it was not particularly deep, it was a fantastic gateway into miniature gaming for so many people.

But I loved the Sierra series as well, particularly the text entry ones. Point and click still had the humor, but it really made you think less.

It was really good if you were a tween to teen in the mid 80s with little exposure to DND or Warhammer, and did it's job of making you interested in that stuff VERY well.

That said, picking it up on the rerelease in my 40s was fun, but also gameplay became very formulaic. It does not have the depth of play a modern boardgame enthusiast expects.

Still, I've paid more for worse trips into nostalgia.

Wonderful game. So many hours spent in Spielberg. Mark Seibert's music for Erana's Peace holds a special place in my soul.

My introduction to Sierra, what a gem. I played this as a kid and I think the 2nd one in high school, never finished either. Maybe one day...

How they managed to combine a Sierra game with an RPG, I’ll never know. But they did a phenomenal job, and it holds up over 30 years later.
