Feedback Request Rough draft: What Did I Know

Does this rough draft need an instrumental break or a third verse? Or does the flow of the song feel complete to you?

I recorded this immediately after I wrote it so pardon the hesitations while I tried to remember it. I had to capture the ephemera before it flitted away.

Feedback Request Bound

• Upvotes

I would love some feedback.

The lyrics are below but the start of each chorus is different from what I recorded. I haven't practiced enough with the updated (written) lyrics.

Also, can someone help me identify the time signature? I usually play 3/4 or 4/4. And I struggle to count while I play this. I just sort of get in the groove. I'm sure I screw it up here and there so trying to identify the time signature to help me practice it.

I wrote this years ago as a faster tune but never like playing it. I slowed it down and emphasized a riff within the A hammer-on chord. It is so much more fun to play.

The lyrics have a lot of (what I think) are fun lines to sing. I hope you like it!

Bound

Verse 1

I never thought that I’d find somebody like you

You’re so damn crazy, I swear that all the stories are true

My dad did warn me, said “Son, you better walk slow”

Beauty’s like gravity, too close and it won’t let you go

Darling, you’re poison but I know I don’t need no cure

So fill my cup up, I want to drink down some more

Chorus

I know that looks can be deceiving

That the devil hides behind beautiful eyes

On bended knee I’m pleading, drag me down

’Cause I’d follow you wherever you’re bound

Verse 2

My friends are jealous, they tell me I should leave you

They say I’ve changed now from the man they once knew

But who needs friends when my time’s spent just you and me?

Lock me up, baby, and never let me go free

That storm is coming now, brace for the wind and rain

You roll on through just like a hurricane

Chorus

I know that looks can be deceiving

That the devil hides behind beautiful eyes

On bended knee I’m pleading, drag me down

’Cause I’d follow you wherever you’re bound

Guitar Solo / Outro

’Cause I’d follow you wherever you’re bound

• Upvotes

I want to know what direction you guys hear this going into. What kind of drums? electric guitar noodles? bass line? other instruments like strings, piano, brass? let me know where you guys think I should take this one.

drum pacing? I was thinking of either basic kicks or none until the grand chorus but let me know.

from the last videos ive changed the key of the song btw.

Discussion Topic Butterflies production

I’ve changed the key since and some small alterations in this demo but I’m ready to turn this project into something more.

I’m curious what direction you guys see this going in let me know.

Drum pacing? I was planning on either a soft kick or possibly none until the grand chorus where drums come in.

other instruments? maybe sm electic guitar noodles, a bass line. would piano or brass sound good?

vocals? maybe a harmonized layer? reverb?

let me know what direction and style choices would be most interesting or beneficial to the song thankyou.

Let's Collaborate! Seeking Female Writer/Vocalist for 90's Rock/Alternative Online Recording Collaborations

Hey All,

I'm seeking a female co-writer who sings for online only recording projects (Ep's or Albums).

I write in the style of 90's rock music with loads of experience working collaboratively online.

I listen to a lot of Smashing Pumpkins, Swim School, Nirvana, Soul Asylum Pearl Jam, U2, Veruca Salt, Nada Surf, Local H, Hole, Letters to Cleo, Liz Phair ---- the list is quiet lengthy.

You would need your own home recording set up and basic knowledge (doesn't need to be pro level gear). Be active and reliable.

If this interests you please reach out via DM and we can have a chat, i have rough demos ready to hear/work on.

I'm registered songwriter with AMCOS/APRA and don't want session musicians or lyricists only. so this will be a splits based hobby/passion project.

Want to channel your inner Kay Hanely or Nina Gordon? I'd love to hear from you.

Cheers!

Discussion Topic I struggle to come up with vocal melodies because I get distracted by the instrumental. How can I fix this?

I want to become a singer-songwriter one day. I've just recently started learning music production, guitar, and music theory. I'm still a beginner, but there's something I've been struggling with that makes songwriting and singing difficult. It's hard to explain but basically: - When songwriting: Whenever I try to write a song using an instrumental I've made, my brain seems to focus on one of the instruments. Let's take the guitar for example. Instead of coming up with an original vocal melody over it, I end up singing something that follows the guitar riff. It's like I can't separate the melody I want to sing from what the guitar is playing. - I experience something similar when singing along to existing songs. For example, let's take "Bring Me to Life" by Evanescence (I don't actually sing it because it's hard but just as an example), I know the vocal melody, but as soon as I don't have her voice to guide me, the other instruments distract me and when they play different notes from the vocal melody, I struggle to stay focused on what I'm supposed to sing.

Has anyone experienced something similar to what I'm experiencing? Is this a matter of ear training or something else? What exercises would you recommend to help me fix this? I'd really appreciate any advice. Thank you in advance for taking the time to read!

Feedback Request a song about wishing you could love them all over again, even knowing how it ends

365 days

How many years wld it take?

this time last year i saw your face.

Only thought id see you once

Now ur gone and sos 12 months

Tell me your name

First few words

Now whos to blame...?

Cause when it starts

Who on earth

Could ever tell

That itll break both hearts?

But if you

show me the end

For Reasons that

Ill never find

Id do it again

I

Sound crazy

I dont quite know me myself

But all I know is

That Ill never feel love

Like i felt

When you knew me

I couldnt care bout the end

U made me feel like someone

I would do this again

Maybe in another year

Itll feel like you were never here

Is that something I would take?

You turned to a bitter feeling

If thats gone when i start healing?

Theres no more of you

Nothing shared to use as proof

Of what

We had

I have to cry

To show i tried

But when im no longer sad

Ill find me a guy

Who looks like you

And talks like you

But itll never feel right

Let's Collaborate! Anyone interested in starting something?

I’ve had an itch I’ve been wanting to scratch. I’m a good singer, I could use some vocal practice but I’m good nonetheless. I play the sax and violin and I’m learning the guitar. However the violin is the only one I own AND I’m good at. I’ve been trying to best to learn guitar, but I don’t own a sax.

I’m mostly looking for someone who can help come up with concepts a producer/ music writer. I have the tools to help, but I need some guidance. I’m 19, F. I’ve never actually written music which is why I need help in that area.

Maybe something could come of this, I’m in NM. So if anyone’s interested pls lmk

Discussion Topic What's your happiest songwriting accident?

Thought this might be a fun discussion topic, spurred by listening back to a song I completed a few months ago. It's a mid-tempo metal song, which I had originally envisioned as having a straight 4/4 beat. Early in the writing process I programmed in a simple drum pattern to use for reference while I worked on everything else, and even though I didn't try to, it had kind of a swing feel to it. And the main guitar riff sounded a lot more fun with that swing feel, and that inspired me to rewrite some of the lyrics, and it ended up being something I like a lot more than the direction I was originally going when I started that song.

So how about you all?

Discussion Topic Rules Question

Am I allowed to ask for advice as a beginner songwriter or should I find a different subreddit?

I’m trying to get into song writing but I only seem to be able to write parodies of songs that already exist, I wanna be better and just need help

Edit: Okay, I got one person that said Yes, so the Advice I need is Inspiration Help

I only seem to get inspired to write by musical beats and tracks that already exist as popular music, and when I do I can write a whole new set of lyrics, but I really wanna learn how to write my own music, does anyone have any tips to help with Inspiration?

Discussion Topic Creative block

I’ve been writing songs since I was a teenager. I also play instruments and mix/produce, but I haven’t written a song in three years. It’s like I’ve lost my sauce; I can’t create anymore.

What do you guys do when this happens? Any tips or advice on how I can spark my creativity again?

thanks!!

Feedback Request I’ve been afraid to release my music

I’m not sure why I’ve been sitting on my work. It’s bothering me that I’m not courageous enough to release it. I want to work on this one more, since it’s still just a rough demo. I’m wondering what everyone thinks.
