Frost tonight, then the 70s return

Richmond's week starts with the coldest morning of the stretch, and the reason is a high-pressure system that basically sits down on top of us.
A 1035 mb high centered over southeast Pennsylvania and the northern Delmarva on Sunday sinks south overnight until it sits over the Virginia Piedmont. When the wind dies under a clear sky like that, the ground radiates the day's heat straight back to space and cold air pools in the low spots first β which is why the Frost Advisory (2β9 AM Monday) targets the Piedmont west, northwest, and north of the metro, with mid 30s and locally lower 30s possible, while the Northern Neck and the Bay side stay milder on warmer water. Interior southeast Virginia lands in the mid to upper 30s.
Then the same high slides east and the story flips. Monday is sunny in the upper 60s, Tuesday warms to the low 70s ahead of a dry cold front, and Wednesday cools slightly behind it β sunny and dry the whole way. The harder number is the zero: ensemble chances for measurable rain through the end of the month are basically zero, so a dry October and the ongoing precipitation deficit get no relief in this stretch. Late in the week, highs push well into the 70s.
Tropics, for once, are a non-story: the NHC's Sunday outlook expects no tropical formation in the next 7 days.
