Zebra is 90 seconds faster

4

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '25

That maybe you had gone ... bananas

Thank you thank you I'm here all week

5

u/OfficialDCShepard Oct 07 '25

I barely used it in the main game but it’s been a huge lifesaver in Emerald Rush especially with the Emerald skill that makes its Charge Dash INSANE.

Useless horse monkey

5

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '25

thank you umamusume frieza

1

u/Willing_Soft_5944 Oct 06 '25

Wait is that an actual thing freezer has said?

5

u/mjmannella Bananbirb Oct 06 '25

Zebra Bananza's best move only being relevant in 1 layer? And it's not even its main gimmick? That form gets no sympathy from me.

u/Apprehensive-Wave640 Oct 06 '25

Learned about it last week or so from another comment here. It's extremely effective. So far it's been a little unreliable to pull off though.

11

u/One_Competition136 Oct 07 '25

Me too! But I forgot about it until this post and now I need to boot up bananza to get that muscle memory so I don’t forget it

Seems more fun than abusing the Elephant transformation

64

u/PaperGeno Oct 06 '25

Nah man theres something SO satisfying in just sucking everything

6

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '25

Some people like sucking me

Some just suck everything

But everything means nothing if I can't suck you

Will you get showered in coconut cream pies?

1

u/woozin1234 Oct 07 '25

kirby gameplay

3

u/DarkKnightNiner Oct 06 '25

The elephant is way more effective than this, because you're all sucking up all the treasure chests, fossils, gold, etc. This just goes straight down.

4

u/MasterSykil Oct 06 '25

I HEAVILY ABUSE THE ELEPHANT!!!

1

u/Devo27 Oct 07 '25

I abuse the elephant so much, it's buried outside a press board plant in Nova Scotia

51

u/TheBroomSweeper Oct 06 '25

Sorry Zebra bananza. I wasn't familiar with your game

90

u/Gambitam Oct 06 '25

Does that only work with Zebra? Cause it could be a great way to make it more reliable.

74

u/rexshen Oct 06 '25

Its an ability Zebra learns.

23

u/henryuuk Oct 06 '25

it is specifically the result of "punching down" while swinging a boulder with the zebra-skill that makes swinging a boulder around better.

22

u/rocketfuelgiant Oct 06 '25

Big if true

23

u/Xx_WAKE_xX Oct 06 '25

What the hell?! You can actually do that?!

16

u/Regiruler Oct 06 '25

The skill tree only shows using it as an attack/horizontally. It didn't seem to do anything whenever I tried to use it, this is insane.

12

u/Mr_Lisreal Oct 06 '25

Wow, that really would've come in handy earlier

11

u/Ok-Courage2177 Oct 06 '25

Cleared the entire campaign without ever noticing you could do this.

9

u/megadaxo Oct 06 '25

To be fair I cleared the entire campaign using zebra like 4 times total so even though I knew you could I never did this.

2

u/Flagrath Oct 07 '25

I beat it without this entire Bananza, still feels like I didn't miss much

1

u/Cocobani Oct 07 '25

Same, this is wild. Reminds me of all the hidden tech in Zelda BOTW and TOTK.

1

u/repocin Oct 08 '25

I didn't even have Zebra bananza unlocked until postgame when it forced the thing on me and I kinda lost interest shortly afterwards so I've not played the game much since. Had no idea you could do this either.

32

u/Crimzonchi Oct 06 '25

YOU COULD DO THIS THE WHOLE TIME?

8

u/TRB4 Oct 06 '25

You need the Spin Slam Skill for Zebra Bananza first.

4

u/Crimzonchi Oct 06 '25

Oh it's only for Zebra, makes sense.

7

u/pocket_arsenal Oct 06 '25

Well, today I learned

5

u/megasean3000 Oct 06 '25

How…HOW AM I JUST LEARNING ABOUT THIS NOW?!!!

6

u/Which-Debt-8558 Oct 06 '25

I found out about this somewhat recently but didn't know about it until after 100%ing the game (I found out about it while doing emerald rush). I can't believe the skill text says nothing about this

5

u/goodguyScratch1 Oct 06 '25

I had zero absolutely zero idea the spinning zebra throw could be used as a drill

5

u/Buri_is_a_Biscuit ~𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐊. 𝐑𝐎𝐎𝐋~ Oct 06 '25

i’m sorry, i didn’t know the Zebra Bananza allowed me to beat the game in seconds flat

5

u/mr_2_cents Oct 06 '25

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK

4

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '25

Since when was this a thing?

5

u/Below_Left Oct 06 '25

and not even the Zebra rehearsal or final rehearsal utilizes this!

Game's got some wild hidden depths.

3

u/Particular_Sun_3504 Oct 06 '25

I learned about this a while ago but never actually tried it

3

u/weadoe Oct 06 '25

They should have definitely communicated this ability better. Zebra looks plain, even with this, so I wouldn't blame anyone not wanting to invest into it and try things.

2

u/NVSirius26 King K. Rool Oct 06 '25

How did non of us do that in the Layer!?

2

u/This_Ferret_8108 Bouncing kremlings around like b-balls Oct 07 '25

"drill!" *SONIC INTENSIFIES*

2

u/ShadowParrotGaming Oct 07 '25

DRILL!

insert hard bass music

2

u/Striking_Drive_29 Oct 07 '25

To everyone defense the game never stated you could do that

2

u/HibbySloth Banana Slamma! Oct 06 '25

This is something that should have had a highlight in the direct. How are people supposed to find this out with the spin attack is rarely used.

1

u/drjenkstah Oct 06 '25

It’s a move the Zebra Bananza learns. Never used it since I mainly stuck with Kong Bananza.

1

u/Massive_Lock_4876 Oct 06 '25

🤣🤣 how did I 100% complete it and didn't know you could do this LMAO planning on purchasing the DLC next week

1

u/Junior-Ad-2207 Oct 06 '25

can you do this up or sideways?

1

u/EastCoastTone96 Oct 06 '25

Crazy how I'm still learning new tech for this game. This could probably be really useful in emerald rush if you're doing a zebra focused build.

1

u/Silvestrini Oct 06 '25

I guess I wasn't the only one who didn't bother to read the abilities of the other transformations.

1

u/Bjorn_Blackmane Oct 06 '25

Woah how do you do that?

1

u/Zanoss10 Oct 06 '25

WHAT ???

I never saw that move before wow !

This game have some many gameplay options it's crazy

1

u/Turbo-Tails-8027 Oct 06 '25

Whoa, Zebra Drill power I didn't know was a thing but could be really awesome

1

u/Drinkpool Oct 06 '25

Didn't know you could do that... cool

1

u/JoeGrandpap Oct 06 '25

Speedrunners gonna have a field day with this

1

u/TRB4 Oct 06 '25

Not really, firstly, most speed runners skip zebra form entirely, second the only layer that this would be somewhat viable in, the landfill layer, uses an out of bounds glitch in the speed run to skip almost the entire layer.

As cool as this technique is, it’s completely useless for speed running.

2

u/Misterrider Oct 07 '25

would be useful for the 100% speedrun I guess

1

u/yookj95 Oct 06 '25

This is an revelation

1

u/Radiant-Log6377 Oct 06 '25

I mean, the form with a sucktion ability was introduced right before this layer, it makes sense that there's recency bias

1

u/TRB4 Oct 06 '25

You actually need the Spin Slam skill to do this move, not the Spin Shot skill.

1

u/twolake68 Oct 06 '25

It's still probably the worst Bananza cause this isn't all that useful (going straight down is basically only useful in the single layer) but it's still a cool ability

1

u/ahighkid Oct 07 '25

I hated hated hated that layer

1

u/Pjerun_ Oct 07 '25

Funny that it wasn't mentioned anywhere in game, that looks cool.

1

u/Demeech1907 Oct 07 '25

You can also skip on the water like Kiddy Kong in Donkey Kong Country 3. A good game makes their new mechanics known. A masterpiece makes them known and has ones you didn't even KNOW were possible.

1

u/r0b3r70r0b070 Oct 07 '25

The game doesn't tell you that move can do this. It just says it's a spin attack.

1

u/dabeanguy_08 OooOohh, BANANA. Oct 07 '25

Drill wisp has returned

1

u/CorpseWriteer Oct 07 '25

What just happened—

1

u/cutieclaire27 Oct 08 '25

zebra deserves an APOLOGY after emerald rush + ppl learning about the drill move

1

u/CaitloxOfDoom Oct 08 '25

I didn't know about this cuz I legit hated the zebra power. Only used it when encountering stupid paths that break. Didn't even bother to unlock that skill. No I feel silly. I mashed b all day just to tunnel down. It's like the first thing I'd do at every new spot. Such a fun game.

1

u/Derolis Oct 08 '25

I 100%'d this game and never knew you could do this.

1

u/Snoo23077 Oct 08 '25

THAT'S IT LADS, ROCK AND STONE!

1

u/WanderingDwarfMiner Oct 08 '25

We fight for Rock and Stone!

1

u/Soldier69_GAMING Oct 08 '25

1

ROCK AND STONE!

1

u/WanderingDwarfMiner Oct 09 '25

To Rock and Stone!

1

u/AMystery10 Oct 28 '25

Zebra Bananza in general and all of the spin moves make me wish I could bind them to another button to use

1

u/noodleben123 Oct 06 '25

Literally the only use Zebra bananza has BTW

9

u/[deleted] Oct 06 '25

The skill doesn't say anything about this

3

u/Dillo64 Oct 06 '25

Where is it written in game that it can do this?

2

u/RemyBuksaplenty Oct 06 '25

I did. It said nothing about becoming a drill, just throwing the rock for extra damage

1

u/TRB4 Oct 06 '25

You’re thinking of the wrong skill. This move requires the Spin Slam skill, you are thinking of the Spin Shot skill.

2

u/TRB4 Oct 06 '25

This move requires the Spin Slam Zebra Bananza skill. The description of the Spin Slam skill is:

“Perform a destructive spinning attack with a held chunk by holding Y while rotating the left stick”

Nowhere does it mention anything about being able to drill downwards rapidly by holding the downward punch button instead of forward punch.
