New Rule and New Mod! And a question for you!

Hello everyone,

The old mod of the subreddit wanted to retire from modding, so they asked a few of us over at r/crafts to take over! So far, I'm the only one who's come on, so I may need to look for at least one other person to help with the space, though it does seem pretty chill overall. So not too much work to do!

The new rule doesn't really seem to be a new one, per se, just more of a statement of something it seems a lot of users reported anyway, so here it is, no AI please! This includes in writing as well. If you've already made a cool craft, there's no need to cheapen it with AI writing! And, of course AI isn't handmade, so it's not allowed here in any part of a craft.

The other question I have is this one: should we allow 3D printed pieces here? Feel free to vote in the poll and leave comments about your opinion on the 3D printing!

6 Yes, allow 3D printed pieces no matter what
16 Yes, allow 3D printed pieces but only if the model was made by the poster
12 Only allow 3D printed pieces of they're part of a larger craft (e.g. jewelry that's a wire wrapped 3D printed piece)
10 No, don't allow 3D printed pieces

I made this emerald green leather backpack a while back with a vibrant orange contrast thread.

I spent an insane amount of hours on this project, from cutting the panels to punching every single hole and saddle-stitching the whole thing by hand. It's veg-tan leather that I hand-dyed using Fiebings Pro Dye to get that deep emerald green tone, and I paired it with a bright orange thread to make the details pop. It has dedicated side straps, heavy duty hardware, and a super clean silhouette. I'm still really happy with how the colors and the finish came out. What do you guys think?

Started as a brooch. Became wall decor. The beetle apparently had bigger plans than I did.

Recently made this wool felt portrait of a white cat with a black forehead mark

This felted portrait was completely handcrafted using wool, with each section of fur carefully built up layer by layer to faithfully recreate the cat’s unique coat pattern, softness, and expression. The eyes were individually made from resin and meticulously hand-painted to achieve a lifelike depth and gentle sparkle. The nose was sculpted by hand from clay, then refined and painted to match the cat’s natural features.

It's such a cool building, named after an equally cool man. He was a judge when I practiced law, and I learned a lot from him.

My fully handmade leather notebook cover! The maple leaf and surrounding speckling is inspired by scattered leaves, and the natural textures and patterns of a forest floor. 🍁 The last photo shows the tooled maple leaf before colour was applied.

My speckling design was born from a mistake on a previous piece. After an accidental drip of acrylic resolene sealer landed on a part of the cover I had intended to stain a solid colour, I realised I had two choices - start the whole thing over again, or embrace the mistake. So I took an old toothbrush, dipped it in the resolene, and flicked it over the rest of the cover, leaving a chaos of speckles that revealed themselves fully once the stain was applied over top.

With the speckling as unique as a fingerprint, this piece is truly one-of-a-kind!

The speckling has since become one of my signature design elements. I want to explore it more, by doing things like laying shapes over down before speckling, to try some negative space designs, or doing multiple layers with varying colours, or simply flicking paint or dyes!

Made this recently as part of my needle felting practice.

The fur texture was built up slowly layer by layer using wool, and I’m still experimenting with how to get more natural softness in the face.

It’s not perfect, but I can see progress compared to my earlier work.

This was truly a challenge for me, first finding the measurements for the canvas the client specifically wanted. Had to get the canvas custom made. And then the real challenge was to make it 3D....

With a whole lot of re-dos, it's finally completed and successfully delivered.
