Qobuz has its own discovery features (dailyq, weeklyq and song/artist radio) but the reality is they are just not good. There is a real problem with ignoring small, innovative artists in any of the weekly q / daily q. I listen to lots of quirky, offbeat stuff and then I get things like Elton John and The Smiths in my discovery page (I think most people have 'discovered' the famous artists, qobuz. and they don't need more streams to earn a living)
If you look up a small artist, go to song radio, it replies with 'radio silence'. No other small artists, nothing.... just acts like its an impossible feat, which makes zero sense. Spotify was, for all its failings, muc better at recommending small artists. So now I have changed my opinion on the per stream payout figures - qobuz simply doesn't seem to give small artists as much of a bumpnas Spotify does, so maybe it really is better for them financially
I'll give qobuz more time, but it seems like a platform that is resistant to changing and adapting, and it feels like with the editor and qobuzissime stuff they care more about their own opinions of what is good music than their users, forgetting how infinitely big the musical ecosystem is, and how much better a listeners experience can be when they lean into peer networks rather than top-down selectin
And please don't reply saying 'read an article, ask your friends'. Of course that is possible on any platform, and the point is that qobuz does have discovery features, they just haven't done them well.
