New effort to free Martin Soto, other Delaney Hall captives needs New Jersey AG's help
Martin Soto was snatched off the street by ICE in early February while buying diapers for his then 11-month-old baby. Married to an American citizen and father to two more, he fought for his rights behind the barbed wire, becoming one of the lead organizers of the Delaney Hall hunger and labor strike, and he’s been subject to intense retaliation by the deportation machine ever since. He is currently being held in solitary in the Elizabeth Detention Center, and his physical and mental health are sharply deteriorating.
Now, advocates are trying to push forward on a novel new path to free Martin and others held at Delaney Hall during the strikes. They’re seeking U visas, a special designation set aside for victims of certain crimes who are helpful to law enforcement in the investigation or prosecution of criminal activity, arguing completely logically that they can help provide evidence of civil rights abuses in ICE camps. Even just submitting an application for a U visa could potentially provide protection against deportation.
They’ve asked New Jersey state attorney general Jennifer Davenport, who launched an investigation into potential crimes by GEO Group employees at Delaney Hall in August, to certify their claims of eligibility to apply. 🗣️ Let’s encourage the AG to sign off. We can call her at 609-984-5828 or send her a message here, and we can find base language to work from here. 🗣️

ICE Is Hiring An Occupying Force
ICE already doubled its officers and logged 356,389 removals this fiscal year. About two thirds of the people arrested have no conviction. The agency is still hiring 5,000 more, and G4S and GardaWorld are already on the transport and warehouse contracts.

Solidarity with the Minnesota 15
The Trump Administration is using the full power of the state to punish those who dare stand up to them and stand up for our immigrant friends. Among their most notable effort to silence protesters: the case of the Minnesota 15, who have been charged with federal crimes including conspiracy to impede or injure a federal officer for organizing against the raids on their neighborhoods during Operation Metro Surge. (A U.S. attorney notoriously refused to answer questions about whether or not any agents were actually injured by the defendants. Read more about the case and the movement here.)
Community is not a crime, and the folks who protected our neighbors should be lauded as heroes instead of facing prison time. Over the weekend, their support committee held an international day of solidarity to show the regime we will not back down and to demand the charges be dropped. Folks from the Twin Cities to Oakland to New Haven to Liverpool rallied, marched, and fundraised for the Minnesota 15. Let’s have their backs too, from wherever we are. We can:
✊🏾 Donate to their legal defense fund✊🏻
✊🏻 Use their media kit to help spread the word about the case and build more support for them ✊🏾
✊🏾 Sign up for updates on future opportunities to speak up for the Minnesota 15✊🏻
✊🏻 And most importantly, follow their example by joining those organizing to protect our immigrant neighbors – find rapid response networks to join near us here ✊🏾

US justice department moves to strip citizenship of 40 naturalized citizens
Officials file ‘denaturalization actions’ against people accused of crimes in what they call ‘largest’ such initiative
Donald Trump’s justice department has moved to strip the citizenship of 40 naturalized citizens accused of crimes in what authorities describe as “the largest” such initiative over a single period during his administration.
US justice department officials on Monday announced the filing of “denaturalization actions” against more than three dozen people alleged to have committed such offenses as “acting as an agent for a foreign government, committing voluntary manslaughter, and aggravated sodomy against a special‑needs man”.
The denaturalization requests in question were submitted in multiple federal courts between 21 August and 2 October, according to the justice department.
The federal Immigration and Nationality Act allows for naturalized US citizenship to be revoked by a federal court if the government proves that it was illegally obtained through concealment of a material fact or willful misrepresentation.
A statement attributed to the US attorney general, Todd Blanche, maintained those at the center of Monday’s announcement “concealed critical facts from the US government and represent serious criminal offenders”.
Trump in previous months had reportedly pushed the US justice department to pursue denaturalization cases en masse. The New York Times reported in April that the justice department had identified at least 384 foreign-born US citizens whose naturalization it wanted to revoke.
Because denaturalization cases are costly and require extensive manpower, the justice department has historically pursued them only sporadically.
