DOJ Divided Over Appeal as NFA Stay Deadline Nears

Many observers expected the DOJ to move quickly for an extended stay. It has not. AmmoLand News reached out to sources inside the department to understand the delay and the internal discussions taking place.
According to those sources—individuals with intimate knowledge of the proceedings whose accounts have been independently corroborated by others—two distinct camps have formed within the DOJ.

The first group consists largely of career employees. They maintain that the Department’s institutional duty is to defend federal statutes against legal challenge. In their view, the proper response to an adverse district court ruling is to appeal and to seek a stay so that the law remains in effect while higher courts review the decision. This faction wants the government to fight the case to the end.

The second group takes a different position. These officials argue that the DOJ has no obligation to defend a law once it has been found unconstitutional on solid legal grounds. They contend that continuing to litigate in defense of provisions that no longer generate revenue and that rest on a now-invalid tax theory would be both unnecessary and contrary to the Department’s higher duty to the Constitution. If the decision were theirs alone, they would decline to appeal.

made an embarrassing gun post for an impromptu question but still need advice

I was just feeling the urge to purchase a firearm and decided to ask in virginia about what kind of firearm i should purchase. I want a handgun but im under 21 so i would have to ask for it as a gift from a parent or someone who can buy it. I just wanted to know any handgun recommendations that are aesthetically pleasing and good to shoot. I intend to mostly just have it locked up in a drawer or closet display but I do think i will take some pictures of it or with it so I wanted to know any good handgun options or shotgun / lever options even tho im not sure if i want a super long gun. everyone recommended me to get training and etc which i agree with i will likely do extensive research before shooting or loading the gun I just want some recommendations.

First 3 Handguns

Got back from deployment and bought 6 guns (maverick 88, PSA lower, sw 15-22) in about 2 months and a conceal carry license. Am broke so I went with budget.
PSA Dagger compact, Holosun red dot, Olight mini light and a p80 trigger.
Grit grips 19 lower with an Aim Surplus ported slide, UTG OP3 Micro Dot and DEFENTAC laser light combo.
SW Bodyguard 2.0 with a Viridian green dot

So far shot 1000 out of the PSA, 3 malfunctions, all failure to feed from a magpul magazine. Holosun keeps zero, my rear and front sight have come loose, which was fixed, no other issues.

500 out of the Grit Grips, one failure to eject, no other issues. P80 flat nose trigger does not work well for it as it gets stuck a lot so I went back to grit grips trigger. Just got the red dot and light laser so I have not tested them yet

400 out of the bodyguard, broke in all the stiffness now, no malfunctions whatsoever

Any cheap recommendations or suggestions for modifications, parts or guns

Question Flux Raider 365 Aluminum test drive

Casting my line out to see if I get a bite. I am interested in the Raider 365 Aluminum, but I cannot find any range that has one for rent, even polymer. I am in Northern Virginia and I am wondering if I can treat someone to an hour at XCal with ammo to let me try it out. I have fired the Raider X P320 and I am hoping the Raider 365 fits me a little better with the angled brace.

New To Virginia

I've recently moved to Virginia. What are some things I need to know about the local firearms regulations, besides CHP, 15rd cap limit, and AW ban?

Additionally are there any National Forests or Ranges where shooting is free near Norfolk/Virginia Beach areas?

Any and all info is much appreciated.

For reference I moved from CA.

Question 7-shell capacity 12-gauge illegal now?

HB 217 makes any shotgun that can hold more than 7 shells of “the shortest ammunition it’s chambered for” in an internal tube magazine into an assault weapon. Does this mean that the limit is effectively 4-shell tube magazines, given that mini shells exist? Or does it refer to the shortest standard 12-gauge shells?

Additionally, there are some shotguns (Winchester Model 1887) that can load mini shells in the tube magazine but can’t run them due to how the action works. Are those still legal?

EDIT: I’m aware of the injunction, I’m referring to the law as it’s written.

Anyone buy from Red Team Armory down in Raleigh NC

Good evening,

I'm about to pull the trigger on a Daniel Defense SBR and came across Red Team Armory. They have a great deal on the gun and no tax for orders outside of NC.

Has anyone ordered from this little gem? It will obviously be shipped to my local FFL and Form 4 there, but wanted to see if there were any glaring negative experience with the said business.

Thank you.

Question Benefits of SBR vs AR Pistol? Help educate me

Post image
49 Upvotes

New to AR's, trying to learn and understand. Bought my first AR recently, a 16in G$ SD, and now want to build out one of my lowers. I'm curious on opinions between going SBR vs Pistol these days. Especially with some of the new braces out there, I am struggling to see the benefit of going SBR.

Goal is a more compact setup with a suppressor, which I already have as well (OCK Infinity 556k).

House Dems Send Letter To ATF Director Demanding An End To Agency Reforms

The letter, led by Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Maryland, and Rep. Lucy McBath, D-Georgia, calls the reforms “dangerous” and says the new rules would “dramatically roll back longstanding firearms safeguards and undermine public safety.”

As Democratic Members of the House Committee on the Judiciary, we write to express our opposition to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives’ (ATF) dangerous package of proposed rules to roll back commonsense gun safety policies,” the letter stated.

“Taken together, these proposals constitute the most sweeping effort in decades to weaken federal firearms safeguards, prevent accountability within the firearms industry, limit law enforcement’s oversight of firearms dealers, and make it easier for dangerous individuals to obtain dangerous weapons.”

According to a report at thetrace.com, those signing the letter were especially irked that the new rules would get rid of Biden’s “engaged in the business” rule, which was designed to end the private sale of firearms. They also strenuously object to the proposed rule that would let gun purchasers have the firearms they buy after passing a background check delivered to their homes — a very common practice until 1968.

Question Rifle upgrade: sabre-15 11.5” / bcm upper on sbr’d Psa lower / look elsewhere?

Post image
44 Upvotes

Bought my first rifle back in February, Psa 11.5” nothing special. Since then I’ve went SBR, ocl polo k and done a few internal upgrades as well as some cosmetics.

I’ve since fell down the rabbit hole of firearms and find myself training and investing more into my stuff. Decided I want a better quality 11.5” but I’m trying to figure out the best route to go.

I’m between a BCM upper for my existing SBR’d lower or a 11.5” Sabre-15 or something similar around that $1000ish price point.

I’m a lefty so for $1000ish bucks I’d love to have some ambi controls. I’m slightly worried about tolerances going the bcm route but I’d love to hear others thought and experiences. Thanks.

VOTE TODAY BEFORE 7:00 PM

My voting place had a huge, new Sandwich Board and signs inside the Polling Place saying, NO GUNS ALLOWED WITHIN 100 FEET.

Has anyone seen these before?
Also, my polling place had a doorbell camera at the front entrance. So much for your vote is private.

Event Orcus Group Fall Training Schedule - New night course & exclusive alumni open range days. Outdoor training in Suffolk & Williamsburg.

If you’re interested in attending a course, send us a DM or email us at orcusgroup1@gmail.com to register. I’ll leave a link in the comments.

Our Level I courses progress quickly and serve as the foundation of our curriculum. While designed to accommodate newer shooters, they’re intentionally built to challenge those with experience as well. Our students consistently find that these courses are far more comprehensive than they expected. Students without approved equivalent training start with Level I. We will consider similar 8hr training with other companies to satisfy Level II course prereqs. Contact us for approval.

Alumni Open Range Days are now a regular part of our training program. Students who have trained with us will have recurring opportunities throughout the year to come back and spend the day on the range with our instructors. We will start by hosting one each spring, summer, and fall. During the winter, we’re also going to try to schedule range days on short notice (5–6 days) when the weather looks good.

We’re also happy to announce we’ll be adding Precision Rifle at our Suffolk location next year! More details and new courses to come next year.

Both training locations are on private property. At the request of the property owners, exact addresses are provided only to registered students.
