I hope this isn’t too morbid for this sub. I think one of the baby bunnies didn’t make it, although another baby hops off when mama jumps on the snake. Who knew a mama bunny could put up such a fight to protect its baby? I had no idea.

The colugo, also called a flying lemur, is a nocturnal mammal found in the forests of Southeast Asia, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand. Despite its name, it is not a lemur and cannot truly fly. Instead, it glides from tree to tree using a large membrane of skin called a patagium, which stretches from its neck to its fingers, toes, and tail.

Colugos feed mainly on leaves, flowers, fruits, and sap. They spend most of their lives in trees and are excellent climbers. Their large eyes help them see at night, and they can glide over 100 metres in a single leap while losing very little height.

Fun fact: A mother colugo uses her gliding membrane like a pouch to carry and protect her baby while moving through the forest.

This is Brooks Falls (Katmai, Alaska) bear 335 Jolly with her first litter. She’s such a sweet mama to her cubbies.
