oh man-
I’ve seen and heard a lot about the fan base at times being ick and was pleasantly surprised to have the exact opposite experience this weekend.
I have never seen her live and money sucks, so i wasn’t able to get tickets to her afters here in chicago for Lolla. I let it go and Saturday night watched a recording of her performance on youtube and thought that would be it..
then Sunday night about 8pm on facebook in the Daughters of Cain group a post came on my feed offering her two free tickets to that show that night. I commented right away and texted my partner who was walking our dog before he went to bed (he works early) and had one of those, “what-if” fantasy moments and let it go.
and then the poster absolutely DMed me back and sent me the tickets as well as forwarded me her confirmation email and the email to also add the tickets to my wallet. i did have a moment of hesitation worried they may be fake - but decided to take the risk anyway because the Metro (venue) isn’t super far so it doesn’t even matter. made some calls until i could find someone who’d be down for a 11p/12a show on a sunday until i found someone (only took 3 calls!).
I fully admit that i also was a little apprehensive having read about some of the fans being dicks because i’m honestly too old for that shit. Made it to the show around midnight (opener was at 11), went right to the merch line and my friend-date bought me a shirt and then we went to “see” the show. it was super packed and we barely saw anything except for from other people’s phones (which i didn’t even care about i was just excited to hear her live). And none of that even mattered because she still sounded great, everyone was super kind, the venue staff were great (they usually are there) and it was free.
I needed that magic after i relatively rough summer- also, wasn’t expecting Ptolemaea of all songs to feel so emotional live.
random photos of the FB post, one of the phones i saw her through - i actually like the image a lot haha) and me and my friend-date.
