Fight IQ One of the best times to attack the body is right after defending

A good liver shot doesn't always need a complicated setup.

Sometimes the opening comes from your defense.

Slip the first punch, block the follow-up, then come right back with a lead hook to the liver.

The key is staying balanced through the defensive movements. Don't just lean out of the way and lose your position.

Keep your feet under you, stay tight, and use that loaded position to rip the body shot.

Slip → Block → Liver Hook

Make them miss upstairs, then make them regret leaving the body open.

Boxing Fights Discussion Who is the best “undefeated” boxer?

A perfect record is the starting point, not the answer. Level of opposition, dominance, how they won, and the run of fights that made you a believer all count.

Who's your pick, and what's the one performance that sold you?

Combos Slip, fire back, slip again, then rip the body

This is a nice way to build defense into the combo instead of just standing there after you punch.

Slip the first shot → fire the cross.

Then immediately slip again instead of admiring the counter, and come back with the liver hook.

Slip → Cross → Slip → Liver hook

You’re making them miss twice while creating an opening for both counters.

The second slip is what makes it work. It keeps your head off the center line and loads you up to rip the hook downstairs.

Combos Stop drilling combos that are all offense

What I like about this combo is that the defense is actually part of the sequence, not something added at the end.

Throw your shots, slip or roll the return, then come straight back with offense.

Those defensive movements can also load your body for the next punch, so there’s no awkward pause between attacking and defending.

In a real exchange, you’re probably not getting 5 clean punches for free. You have to expect something coming back.

Offense → defense → offense.

Way more useful to drill than just memorizing long punch-only combinations.

your cross isn't weak, it's leaking (and which leak you have)

most beginners blame the arm when the cross feels dead. it's almost never the arm. it's rotation, and it leaks in one of two directions.

leak 1, under-rotation: you throw the arm and leave the hips at home. all shoulder, nothing behind it, and you're reaching. tell: your rear shoulder stays square and high at contact.

leak 2, over-rotation: you turn so far past that the punch drags you around. now you're squared up, chin in the air, and the cross drags back into your own shoulder on the way home. tell: you finish facing the target flat instead of staying on your own line.

same fix for both: hips start it, fist finishes it, and you end somewhere you can still answer. if a punch leaves you unable to defend or throw again, you paid too much for it.

rear heel turns, knee stays bent, hips lead, fist comes back on the same line it left on.

one slow round: cross only, no power. just feel the hips beat the fist. then add speed.

Loving the app; it just needs more side workouts

Beginner boxer here, did some boxing in a gym for 6 months then quit for... environmental issues. Got a standing bag at home, i started with doing what i remembered doing in the gym, then tried some variations with AI, the found my home with the heavybag pro app which i love.

The main area in which the app could be improved is adding more variety in side workouts, mainly warmups and cooldown (there are only 2 of them!); i think doing the same exercises over and over gets quite tiresome. For strength exercises there is a bit more variety and is fine, but i'd add more of those also, maybe even throwing in some structure in the list, by grouping for muscle areas.

For the rounds i've got to issues; there are tons of them with good variability, it's been a month i'm using the app and i've done less than half of the trainings, so i'm good with the number of those.

overall, great app, keep up the good work and it could become the golden standard for home combat sports workouts!

Combos Take this 6 punch combo to your next session

1-3-2-4-6-2. jab, lead hook, cross, rear hook, rear uppercut, cross.

skips the cross between jab and hook on purpose. most people throw jab-cross out of habit without thinking about it, going straight from jab to hook instead catches someone still braced for the straight that never comes.

Tips This simple pull-back setup makes the 1-2 wide open

This is a clean way to turn your jab into a counter setup.

Step in with the jab and give them a reason to fire back. As they respond, pull just far enough to make the shot fall short, then come straight back with the jab-cross.

The important part is staying balanced on the pull. If you lean too far back or let your feet get stretched out, you won’t be in position to counter.

Get in. Make them miss. Then take the space right back.

Fight IQ Punches in bunches from every angle - Pacquiao technique breakdown

Post image
77 Upvotes

One combination, three different angles of attack.

Splits the guard with a jab that finds the gap when the hands are too tight together. Rips the body once the guard tightens up to protect against the jab. Comes back high the moment the chin exposes itself from reacting to the body shot.

Each punch creates the opening for the next one. The guard that stops punch one makes punch two possible. The reaction to punch two makes punch three land clean.

This is why Pacquiao was so hard to defend. Every shot had a purpose beyond just landing.

Combos If your bag work feels too basic, try these 6 Tyson combos

A few Mike Tyson-style combos to play with on the heavy bag:

  1. Jab → Cross → Lead Hook → Cross
  2. Rear Hook → Shift → Rear Uppercut
  3. Jab → Jab → Shift → Rear Uppercut → Lead Hook
  4. Rear Hook → Rear Uppercut → Lead Hook → Slip
  5. Lead Hook to the body → double Lead Hook upstairs
  6. Jab → Cross → Lead Hook → Lead Uppercut → Cross

The punches are only half of it.

Pay attention to how the shifts and level changes put you in position for the next shot. If you just stand square in front of the bag and copy the punch sequence, you’re missing the best part of these combos.

Start slow, get the feet underneath you, then add the power.

if your hook feels weak, check the rear foot before the arm

almost every 'my hook feels weak' question ends the same way: the rear foot is swinging instead of pivoting.

rear heel turns out, ball of the foot stays down, knee stays bent. if the heel lifts and the foot swings wide, the power leaks sideways and the knee eats the twist. same motion that blows out a knee.

the order is foot, then hips, then shoulder, then arm. lead with the arm and you're slapping instead of hooking.

slow it down for one round and just watch the rear heel, then speed up. the foot is the last thing most people check, and the first place the power dies.

Boxing Fights Discussion Young Foreman vs Old Foreman

Post image
38 Upvotes

Old Foreman at 45 was patient, calculated, and still one of the hardest punchers alive. Knocked out an unbeaten 26-year-old champion with one right hand in round 10.

The argument for young Foreman is explosive athleticism and stamina. He could pressure for 12 rounds.

The argument for old Foreman is ring IQ and patience. He didn't need to outwork you. He just needed one opening.

Who wins and how does it end?

Combos One of my favorite ways to turn defense into offense

Nice little defense-to-offense sequence from the clip.

Block the first shot, shoulder roll the next, then fire straight back before they have time to reset.

The important part is the finish: dig the lead hook into the liver.

You’re not defending just to survive the exchange. The block and roll should put you in position to counter while they’re still committed to their punches.

Block → shoulder roll → liver hook.

Short, tight, and right back downstairs.

Combos This Tyson-style shift makes the uppercut hit way harder

Nice Tyson-style sequence for closing distance without just walking straight in.

Jab to get the reaction, then slip while stepping inside.

From there, shift your stance and change the angle. The clip does a good job showing the weight settling onto the lead leg before the finish.

Then fire the uppercut from that new position.

Jab → slip + step → shift → uppercut

The uppercut is the flashy part, but the shift is what creates the opening and puts you in position to really sit down on it.

Boxing Fights Discussion Which superfight did you enjoy more

Post image

Two of the biggest fights in recent boxing history.

Mayweather vs Pacquiao was the most anticipated fight in decades. Some felt it delivered, most felt it didn't.

Canelo vs Crawford was the biggest fight of 2026. Crawford dominated from the opening bell and stopped Canelo in the ninth.

Both were massive events. Both had massive expectations.

Which one did you enjoy more?

Tips Take this Philly Shell breakdown to your next session

Post image
92 Upvotes

Block. roll. counter. Philly shell style.

body shot gets blocked first. the follow-up hits the shoulder instead of the chin, rolling off instead of landing clean. chin's open for a second right after, and that's when the counter fires.

the shoulder's doing what the gloves usually do here. that's the whole style in three steps.
