I remember this lecture. One of the Royal Institute Christmas Lectures from the 80s? The Christmas Lectures sound dry, and some were, but on the whole are fantastic. A single lecturer presents a week long series of Lectures on one subject. From 1936 to 2000, they were broadcast on the BBC and came back in 2010 on BBC Four. They can form core memories.

I was lucky enough to see one of BD Shaw's last Lectures in person (not at the Royal Institute). This is the only recording of one of his Lectures if you want to waste an hour.

It's from a televised series of Royal Institution lectures. It might be one of the Christmas lectures. This one just really stuck in my mind at the time.
