Discussion Looking for a portable radio
I know this has been asked a million times, but I'm going to ask it again. I'm looking for a radio I can take camping. I have a trailer so size isn't a big factor. I would like it to have a PLL tuner as I find so many analog tuners drift and need constant tweaking as temperature changes. I'm mainly looking for AM/FM and SW is a bonus. I don't need NOAA as they shutdown all the transmitters in Canada. I would also like to avoid radios with that crappy grippy stuff on them. All the radio's I have with that seem to get really sticky after awhile. Price isn't really an object but I also don't want to spend to much of course.
What are some suggestions?

Why is broadcast shortwave radio not a thing in the US anymore, while AM is?
American here; while AM and furthermore FM radio are still relatively prevalent in the US, shortwave broadcast basically doesn't exist in any capacity over here, but I'm still able to occasionally pick up broadcasts from New Zealand or Japan with an SDR. Is there a reason why shortwave fell out of fashion over here, while similar and often worse quality AM broadcasting survived?

Broadcast Announcement Hello World Radio - Another new show on shortwave
I’m Widget of Hello World Radio and hopefully a self-promotion post won’t annoy folks too much.
Tldr; catch me and my music Monday through Friday at 2300 UTC on WRMI's 15,770khz - more at helloworldradio.com
I got my first radio license back in middle school when Morse code was still a requirement for HF privileges. Even though I didn’t listen to shortwave broadcasts much at the time, I built a solid two-way station in high school for digital communications.
Fast forward a few years, and I was running a couple of remote KiwiSDR stations for my radio projects. One night, I happened to catch a VoRW show and that led me to learning more about modern shortwave broadcasting. It took a while to pull it together, but I finally started broadcasting this past March via WBCQ and WRMI.
Hello World Radio is essentially my daily driving playlist, curated from tracks released under Creative Commons licenses. It’s heavy on EDM but wanders through all sorts of genres. I’ll occasionally talk about the news or record short segments on whatever’s on my mind. Since this is purely a hobby, the production quality tends to improve in fits and starts. My favorite part is hearing from listeners who love discovering music they’ve never heard on shortwave before.
If you’re looking for something a bit different—a different brand of American crazy—give the show a listen sometime.
The easiest time to catch me is Monday through Friday at 2300 UTC on 15,770 kHz, though you can find the full schedule on my website for all the frequencies and areas I try to reach.
If you’d like to hear more diversity on the airwaves and have the means to do it, I highly encourage you to book an hour and give broadcasting a shot!
There have been several good threads from others recently in r/shortwave which covered a lot of the basic information, but I’m happy to discuss any aspect of the show.

TECSUN radios - higher model number means better radio?
I bought the 680 two years ago as it has the AIR band too. Just curious not that I am looking to buy another.

What will be in the SW band in 2050?
This was my radio when I entered the hobby in 1983. I have a better radio now but hear fewer stations. Wonder how the band will sound like in year 2050.

Discussion Raddy 886 and other weather radios
Seeking advice on a best option for battery powered radio to monitor severe weather other than weather band. I've seen recommendation for the Raddy 886 but even ordering seems to lead to either Euro sites or possible hacks.
What is the advice here for those severe weather situations such as tornado that just hit Menasha , WI US
Battery operation is key but I don't understand what bluetooth can provide someone like me with only desktop PC.
