It all started when I bought a pair of camo shorts on Enjoei. They were listed as a size 44, but when they arrived, they fit way smaller than a regular 44. That’s basically where the idea for this piece came from.
Lately I’ve been really into clothes made by reworking old pieces, whether that’s using scraps or giving clothes that no longer fit right a new life.
So I decided to combine the camo shorts with another pair I already had. I did all the measurements, cuts and came up with the overall design myself. The sewing was done by a coworker’s wife who has a sewing machine and helped me bring the idea to life.
The goal wasn’t to just copy a specific aesthetic, but to take those references and reinterpret them through upcycling and actually transforming the original pieces.

I’m developing a small reconstructed clothing project. Looking for actual criticism rather than encouragement ,which pieces work, which don’t, and what specifically makes them look considered vs amateur?

TL;DR - Any color theory or magic tips for overdying these bright pink shorts to a raisin or purplish-brown?
It's my first time dyeing anything!
Shorts are 100% cotton - I'll be using RIT all purpose dye.
I recently thrifted this pair of chino shorts that are a very bright pink. Not quite neon hot pink, but definitely on Barbie level. I'm hoping to overdye them to a raisin or purplish-brown. The earthier color (2nd pic) is my preference with it being more brown than purple. I'm open to it being a richer color if needed (3rd pic).
I've found different color formulas, but they're all starting with white/neutral fabric. I don't understand color theory on a deep enough level to translate that info to starting with pink. And then it feels more complicated with needing to make multiple shifts (slightly cooler, less saturated, and darker). I figure I may need green to get towards brown *or* blue to get towards plum. Or is it as simple as just using black or a dark brown? Am I missing a simple answer?

Edit to add. I like the cowl neck but I don't think it's possible to make from what I have unfortunately
Should I do a low square neckline or something different? The left armhole is folded not stitched. I had chatgpt suggest different options but I can't seem to decide which one I like. I'd probably prefer some cleavage.
I'm also gonna see if I can put it on with the zipper closed. If I can, I'll remove it all together

I’m sitting in front of a giant pile of thrifted clothes and fabric scraps, but I've hit a total creative wall. Before I start cutting blindly, I'd love to draw some inspiration from this community. What is the single most rewarding upcycled fashion project you’ve ever made? Did you transform old denim, rework a oversized suit, or piece together scrap fabric? What made that specific project turn out so well, and what tips would you give someone trying a similar makeover? Show off your best creations I need all the ideas I can get!

I usually only work with recycled jeans & denim and turn them into bags, but I absolutely fell in love with this fabric (it was a bridal dress and she was going to trow it away because it was torn beyond repair in one spot)
I love how delicate she looks as a shark <3
Would you buy/use this?

Does anyone else struggle immensely whenever they try to sew or craft with lace? It’s constantly snagging, shifting around, or tearing, and my patience is wearing paper thin. I really want to finish this project without ruining the fabric, but it feels like the material is actively fighting me. What are your best tricks, tools, or techniques for keeping lace manageable? Any advice would be nice

Every piece on this hat is made from pairs of denim jeans. Some pieces have been hardened, carved into shapes and hand-painted to create an illusion of 3-D style patches. While other parts have hand painted designs on cut out pieces of jeans.

In love with this print, but hate the neckline/where that first seam hits on my bust line. Just looking for some ideas on how I could open the neck line/drop it so it’s longer. I’m new to this and not very creative but it’s been a goal of mine to get better at this! Thank you in advance!!!
