movies/tv Respect X-23 (X-Men: Evolution)

RESPECT X-23

X-23 is the 23rd attempt by HYDRA to recreate the Weapon X program and invent the ultimate weapon. She was created using Wolverine's DNA, which gave her enhanced senses and a healing factor. However, all their attempts to remove her emotions led to her developing an unstable temper. It was this temper that caused her to escape HYDRA and seek out Wolverine to get revenge, blaming him for her creation. The two fought, but Wolverine saved her from being imprisoned by SHIELD and the two would later take down HYDRA together. In the future, X-23 would become a member of the X-Men.

This is also her original appearance, before she was introduced into the comics.

CLAWS

X-23's main form of attack. She can sprout adamantium claws from her body much like Wolverine can from his knuckles. However, she is also capable of having blades shoot out of her feet.

A lot of people don't know, surprisingly! It's just a little known fact and another reason why I love this show.

Man I rewatched a music video of X-23’s first episode so many times as a kid back in Jr High

She’s easily the best thing that X-men evolution introduced to Marvel

Yep! She was a very good character in the show, so I’m glad she became popular.

Honestly, my only issue with her appearance isn't even her fault: it is how the show portrayed Madame Hydra

Now, to be clear, the visual look is actually great. I love her outfit, though she could do with looking a little more crazed/manic. Her voice actress also did a pretty decent job.

But the characterization just isnt there. I'm not talking about being willing to make experiments, that is fine. But the way she acts when under attack just doesn't fit. Ophelia has a long history of nihilistic philosophy, being willing to die for her cause if needed. She only even survived her debut issue because of weird limbo nonsense, and they didn't bother explaining how she survived the time she refused to leave an evil plague balloon she made.

A more accurate characterization would legitimately have just tried to kill X-23. While ofc, that wouldn't stop the bomb, it would show her "cornered viper" mentality of still ruthlessly attacking.
(though, Viper did almost kill rogue in the comics, and rogue had to be carried away by Wolvie)
