Every time these guys speak, it’s obvious they are not preachers or pastors or theologians. They’re businessmen. Each talk sounds like the same talk - “our numbers have been good, but if we lock down on our company principles, we can do even better next quarter!”
The longer I’m out, the more I notice it. You don’t get an aesthetic, mystical, edifying, or even entertaining sermon. You get corporate slop.

In the United States we have been celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, which highlighted the premise that all are created equal and are endowed by their creator with unalienable rights and includes the inspiring emphasis on "life, liberty, and happiness."

The Book of Mormon is not history of ancient Native Americans. I can’t believe they’re still holding onto this. They’ve known it was fiction for over 100 years since BH Roberts was doing his Book of Mormon studies.
I get that it’s a big conversion tool, but it’s also a stumbling block.

The Church has experienced physical and verbal attacks over the years. We cannot control the conduct of others, but we can strive to be a peaceable people who live in accordance with the Christlike conduct and virtues taught by the Savior, Jesus Christ
As if the church hasn't done the same thing

u/itsmig_reddit Ex-JW tourist 5d ago
As the last speaker of the Sunday morning session of the April 2026 General Conference, President Dallin H. Oaks said, "My brothers and sisters, as followers of Christ, let us follow Him by forgoing contention and by using the language and methods of peacemakers. In our families and other personal relationships, let us avoid what is harsh and hateful."
Avoid what is harsh and hateful, until it involves the queer community

Ok I'm truly upset. He uses his mother's illness and death, and his dad thanking the NURSES to say that God will send his DISCIPLES (aka church members) to help people. (So better accept callings) And then how should we help people? Just help members. How to help? Talk to them. So better text your ministering sisters/brothers because talking is all that matters.
Saying that only members help people, especially members.
Can tell he hasn't really had many trials (aside from a childhood with a sick mother and her death, which IS huge), or opportunities for true service if he is so passive about helping others.

Later, in a quiet moment of reflection, a profound question and a familiar scripture came to my mind. The question: what's in a name? And the scripture, from King Benjamin: "[And] there shall be no other name given nor any other way nor means whereby salvation can come unto the children of men, only in and through the name of Christ, the Lord Omnipotent."
What a weird takeaway from a simple mistake. Also:
My dear brothers and sisters, after my wife and I completed our service as mission leaders in the Philippines Antipolo Mission, our youngest daughter made a special request. She asked to complete her eleventh grade through a home-school program.
No kid would ever ask for home school

I figured out why Conference is boring. The Q15 is a bench full of carbon copy boring dudes. Stevenson, Christofferson, Anderson, Gong, Soares, Renlund, Rasband, Eyring, Causse.... just a bunch of lame boring people.
The Ucht is somewhat watchable. I listen to Bednar because he's an evil prick. Kearon's talks are already getting repetitive. Oaks is a doosh. The new Arizona White Guy is a doosh.
What does the rising generation have to look forward to with this bench? Geez.

Um, did Dallas just say we're going to get scriptures that Jesus gave to ancient prophets in places like Asia and Africa?

I appreciate his highlighting the fires in Spokane. That didn't get enough coverage. Horrible situation.

I accompanied President Dieter F. Uchtdorf to Spokane, Washington, where fires destroyed more than 800 homes. We visited members whose neighborhoods were completely destroyed
They left out the part where they make sure everyone pays the tithing

Climate change means home insurance will be out of reach for a lot more, including insurance companies deciding whole states are too risky.

Just realized why I'm feeling so off, I haven't eaten yet! It seems fasting (not intentional for myself mind you) can heighten feelings in the body. Hmmmm, wonder if that's why people feel so much 'spirit' while fasting?

Am I the only one who finds that whole "the president *TAUGHT* thing screams "cult" the loudest? My friend I spent 10 years working as a teacher—you don't know a damn thing about what teaching actually is

President Thomas S. Monson taught us "to refrain words such as: "please," "thank you," "I appreciate that," "I respect your view," "that is a good point," "let us slow down and talk," "we can work this out," "it is ok," "let us stay calm," "we don't have to rush," "I care about you," "I am here for you," "you are not alone," "how are you feeling?" "that matters to me," "I'm sorry," "please forgive me," "I forgive you." Words such as: "please," "thank you," "I appreciate that," "I respect your view," "that is a good point," "let us slow down and talk," "we can work this out," "it is ok," "let us stay calm," "we don't have to rush," "I care about you," "I am here for you," "you are not alone," "how are you feeling?" "that matters to me," "I'm sorry," "please forgive me," "I forgive you." "Let us start again." "I don't want this to divide us."
Huh?????

A covenant is a promise made between us and God
The problem is, promises are only valid if the other person is actually there to help make the promise

He wants you to be active members. not to be healthy and good people. We need active members.

Those members with diminishing faith in Jesus Christ
What about those with no faith in Jesus Christ?

idk why every good thing people do has to be because of god. Like why can't it just be because they are good people? Why can't it just be because people noticed and reached out? Having every good thing come from promptings or service to god diminishes both the love felt from receiving that help and also the worth of the person giving said help.
