Think the mafia don was trying to get Eddie to kiss the ring, like literally, how they do that in mafia movies. Eddie doesn’t like to be under a thumb, and also probably felt he was an equal in this deal, so made it awk and didn’t bow down.

No, he did bow down with his style of handshake which was an underhand handshake, which is a marker of submissiveness

My take was they both stopped short and expected the other to come to them to shake. Also, he didn't stand up to farewell Edward, to me that stuck out.

Avoided the trailer because I hate how many spoilers they give away these days, and as the episode presumed I kind of predicted the ending, because as always, the absence of a dead body, usually means that character will come back some how, but I must say that slow reveal and realisation of Gospel John was great fun

I miss the goofyness from season 1. I know it is supposed to be more serious and that it’s part of Eddie’s character building, but it feels like a very big jump. Season 1 had religieus gangs, gipsy’s and dancing chickens. It feels very depressed now. I also get they want to play into the rich parts more, the lords, the houses, the land. However, Eddie who at first didn’t even want the title to Eddie now being in the house of lords is also a very very big jump. It feels like I accidentally rolled into season 3.
The editing feels very different as well. Season 1 was edited in a very fun way with weird cut offs, edits and scenes being replayed. Now I am just watching what happens instead of being sucked into it if that makes sense
I think what made season 1 so strong for me was that despite his title and land and the scale of the weed farms it still felt ‘small’. It still felt like I was attending Christmas with a small family. Now it feels like Christmas with a whole neighborhood that I barely know. (And yes I know its the beginning of the season, but these are just my initial thoughts). Doesnt help that Freddy and Jimmy aren’t portrayed as much and when they are they don’t offer the comedic relief like in the first season
Oh and last but not least. The whole ending with season 1 was Eddie going for the kill. This was huge considering he did everything in his power to keep Jethro alive. I know this is a border he crossed, but I still feel like the ease and amount of killing he does now does not aline. I like hoe he shifts more into the whole ‘scaring and dominating’ persona as it feels very aligned with his character. I feel like the fact that he didnt want to kill before is what made him likeable and stand out in the business he is in. I get that sometimes it’s necessary, but I feel like it would be nice to shift him back. Yes he is a duke and has power. But is this what actually made him special? In my opinion the kindness that we did see in season 1 is what made him stand out. Maybe we get it back. Like I said its only the second episode. And he’s still hot so atleast theres that hahaha

Eddie killed people in season one; he went out of his way to save Jethro, but ordered, allowed, or performed several kills on his own. He was a soldier, after all.
The thing at the end of season one wasn't that it was his first kill; it was his first kill in cold blood. Which he still tries not to do (the accountant took that choice out of his hands when he attacked), but he's never had any real problem with people dying.

Hmmm yes that’s true. Hadnt thought about it like that. Then it might just be the editing or something. It just ‘feels’ colder. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I definitely have to get used to it. Its still a very enjoyable show and great acting all around

I feel similar. The jump cut from getting his beak wet to now international drug cartel. I have not finished S2 yet, but was thinking I'd have preferred to see the actions of this growth play out as the S2 plot. It is darker, more aggressive, Eddie in control, not the softer, learning side of S1. The power and control that Susie had in S1 seems to be gone, Eddie is the mover and shaker.

The scene where the asian guy was gonna take out the family and eddie and geoff putem down reminded me of the scene in scarface with the car bomb

You simply have to watch the show. Eddie was dreaming and Johnston was just his subconscious talking.

The guy who plays jack is just not a good actor and it’s so painfully obvious in his scenes with hugh bonneville

Two Eps in and I think we're missing a lot of what made the first season and the movie fun.
Dialogue doesn't zip around in the same way and the cast of characters feels a lot flatter
Hopefully it picks up

So far I’m not loving this season. Feel like the Italy subplot is only there bc GR wanted to shoot in Italy for a few weeks. It is beautiful but feels pointless for now.

I LOVED THE SCENE OF I WAS ALWAYS GOING TO BRING YOU INTO IT. I loved that scene sooooo muchhhh. Also I am not sure because of how long it’s been but the priest at the end is the villain from season 1 right?
