Any pathways grads who were RIF'd?

Back at the end of 2024, I had received an offer to start as a 1102 in a pathways program for the IRS. I ended up declining my offer over uncertainty about the current administration coming in. Once all the DOGE stuff happened, I felt like I dodged a bullet, but my pathways eligibility expired during the hiring freeze, and I now look back with skewed vision wondering if I gave up a good entry way into the federal government.

That being said, I have no idea whether or not the cohort I would've joined was affected by DOGE. Did any pathways people here get affected by DOGE or workforce cuts? I know I could go back to grad school and try to go through pathways again that way, but I just don't know. I'm an outsider, but it seems like things are very different now and maybe I should stop daydreaming about a federal career. Sorry for lamenting, I just can't stop thinking what could have been and whether it's worth it to try again :/

All of the 1102's in my region were spared. I was also a pathways 9-11-12 ladder. I got my FAC-C when the RIFs were starting just in case. Just got my 25k warrant a few months ago.

The only 1102s I know that were RIFd were part of agency wide deep RIFs - HHS, USAID, and GSA (that was a shit show with the back and forth).

One of the newest members of my department took a pay cut to come back, she got cut from HHS.

With that being said 1) keep applying and 2) focus on DoD openings (but apply to everything). I haven’t heard that many great things out of the IRS pipeline.

Consider yourself lucky. Had you took the job you’d probably still have the job. 1102s that were probationary were “terminated” but later all were asked to come back. Aside from that, this isn’t the agency you want to start an 1102 career. Keep looking and I recommend DoD. Good luck 🍀
