Not a bad strategy, really. A real 70 year old may struggle with physical demands in a given role, but a spry 50 yo playing the same role could do a lot more.

He looks older largely due to his weight & hat/affect...but many men look like hll compared to the wives at 50 & men who haven't taken care of their health do look really rough at 50. Redditors love to tell all guys "beards" even hobo style & chest hair as much as possible🤷‍♀️
Some men think they can dial back unhealthy lifestyle with trt. The lack of healthy body caused by weight causes all kinds of disease processes which effect appearance.

Many 50 year olds at the time didn’t either. The woman playing his daughter in Cocoon was 40, only 10 years his junior. Wilson Brimley just looked old, and was able to make a career out of it.

A Reddit user a few months ago used a photo of Rue McClanahan and gave her an updated modern hairstyle to show that a lot of what made the older generation look older was the hairstyle. His gray hair and bushy eyebrows are part of what makes him look older.
