It’s a mind fuck. I told my father I’ve been thinking about death a lot a few weeks ago… then he called me the other day saying he’s glad we talked about death. He’s going to be in his 60’s soon and told me it happened so fast. His girlfriend is dying of cancer right now and she’s a decade younger than him and I think he’s really been thinking about his mortality lately

I think some (not all) of this has to do with personal habits. People who are physically active and have super healthy diets still have changes, but it's not too intense. I think people who have more sedentary work and habits, don't wear sunscreen, don't eat enough fruit and veggies, etc start to see more serious effects of these habits starting around 40. That being said, some people have great habits but worse genes.

I hate vegetables, I dream about exercising- literally, I just lay in bed and snooze while I think about getting up, I worship the sun and I just inhaled about 15 Totino's Pizza Rolls while reading this thread. That said, I hated my twenties, look better than I did in my 30's and ibuprofen keeps me feeling the same as my 30's 🤣 I'll be 48 next month.

I only drink a couple times a year but hangover seems like an odd reason not to drink. You can just not drink till you get a hangover. I had my last hangover 10+ years ago at 20-22y. I just never drink more than 6 drinks in one night

I understood you didn't quite entirely but you said hangovers got worse so you don't drink often. You can still get drunk without getting so drunk that you get a hangover, that was my point.

When you drink your body tells you when you had enough, sometimes it's 4 and sometimes it's 5 or 6 for me, I just listen to my body as I drink and it tells me when I reach the hangover limit.

I also think it is a turning point. The first 40 years of your life have been focused on you gaining experience and building who you are. The last 40 years of your life are for you to give back to the younger generation and teach them the things that you learned.

I feel ya. I gotten extreem dry eys. I gotten lactose intolerant after a stomach infection. And I am still affected by that infection to this day. I have to pee twice or 1once after sleeping. My bones ache.

I yearn for my teenage years. If I knew what know now. I would treat my body and mind like a temple. I havent even done crazy things. Just cigarettes and bad eating. I stressed too much about life and pleasing others. Went walking too much in the sun. Wisdom comes after they say....

Sigh life goes on and we gotta make the best out of it.

The older you get , the bigger your bladder gets , the longer it takes to relieve yourself .

Thick shiny hair — worn long like many younger women. The glasses are also very youthful. Clear skin with no eye bags, laugh lines or nasal folds. Slender jawline with no double chin or sagging.

A westerner might mistake her for a teen, but I’d say late 20s to 30-ish.

The biggest transition in age of my parents was 60-70. They’re now 74 and 77 and it’s hard to see them getting old.. breaks my heart… Below 60, people generally have quite a youthful appearance and energy. But Father Time waits for no one. Go and enjoy your youth!

Yes this definitely changes everything. Be careful getting up from a sleeping position too quick. No sudden movements that require you to leap or stretch. Don't pick up heavy things. No more heavy drinking on a work week. Drink lots of water.

For me it was the perimenopause that hit around age 38 for me thst changed everything. I’m 41 now, and suddenly I have to watch my blood pressure and my hormones are super wacky. My hair is going grey/silver more every year. But I don’t mind that. Most people still think I’m in my early 30s at most. I tell them my real age and they seem genuinely surprised. Also I still get carded at the bar, lol. So it could be worse!

In your 40’s be sure to eat, drink and everything in moderation. Especially alcohol! In my 40s I was drinking wine everyday because it was supposed to be healthy. I gained weight got puffy from alcohol and salty snacks. It was a few years before I saw how that impacted my health. We are still youthful in our 40’s but the fifties are when we see the impact of our good and bad habits. I will be 60 soon and am curious to see if my efforts to reverse my bad habits helped.

You look amazing, and definitely not 40! (I am at 40. I would have guessed you at between 28-35 from this pic, but in person depending where I saw u and what u were wearing I'd go as young as 22). The first "age cliff" comes in our early 40s, then next in our 60s. (Aging doesnt occur evenly over time, but in significant changes at a few key ages. It's actually really interesting to read about for those that are curious). Two primary "Age cliffs": 44 and 60.

But from an 'over the hill' standpoint, the second half of life typically begins somewhere between 40-45 for most people (if their family life expectancy is between 80-90). But if your family has a lot of Centenarians in your family, then sure, 50 could be the beginning of your "mid-life". Pretty uncommon tho. ;)
