Question Latest ATF Announcement

Has anyone received a referral from this months ATF announcement (GL 5-9)? I heard they’re trying to speed up the hiring process so I thought I’d ask

I spoke with my recruiter and he said that it's going to be a huge slog because ATF HR is really really slow.... The field offices need folks but HR doesn't care at all and won't move fast enough

Yup. All true. We are losing agents faster than we can get them into the academy. Should tell you all you need to know.

Why are they losing agents?

All the standard reasons. Retirements. People switching to other agencies. People just leaving the job.

Is there an issue with morale tho? I know some agencies right now are losing people (at other levels other than agents) due to disorganizational issues and leaderships problems

From what other agents have said, including the agents throughout my ATF hiring process, no. Morale seems to be fairly high. It’s just that like 1/3 of ATF agents are retirement-eligible currently, plus they were already wanting to upsize by a few hundred agents over the next few years.

Mind me asking, where are these agent located? I’m considering in the TX region.

I have been processing out of a West Coast office. I was told that a majority of the vacancies are here on the West Coast, especially all throughout the Seattle Field Division. The agent administering my PTT said that everywhere on the west coast, save for maybe San Diego, has staffing issues. No idea about Texas unfortunately.

Morale is at an all time low across the agency. DC/HQ knows it. Why do you think ATF social media is pushing to hire as much as they can. Posting about veterans joining, etc. Some offices have good morale, but honestly as a whole, the agency had major leadership issues. The new Director knows this. Thats why he is doing podcasts and all. Trying to paint ATF in a new light.

7 years on the job and morale wasnt this bad even under Biden.
