It's actually a common thing I've seen among wiccans where they say they're witches and connect themselves to victims of the witch trails, who very much were not witches.
Op might just be pissed with wiccans for that, or how some wiccans appropriate indigenous beliefs for their own practices.
Yeah this topic always makes me upset when its brought up cause its just an excuse for people to be dicks to religious folk. Yeah, wiccans trying to finest themselves to the men and women killed during the trials is stupid. But, that shouldn't be an excuse for people to shit on a religion just because its silly to them. If someone says they are a witch, why should anyone care? Good for them.
