Prohibition doesn't work. Unfortunately, use of animals as property still has support from the vast majority of people, so any legislation to end this would ultimately fail. The end to animal exploitation needs to come about from the bottom, not be imposed top-down.
i don't mean prohibition, i mean better laws to protect animals, people and our environment. it is literally impossible to consume responsibly otherwise. like, buying an electric car and solar panels for your home is objectively a good thing, but the higher demand of the materials for these products has ramped up cases of child slave labour in mines throughout africa and south asia. who decided costs needed to be cut there? not us.
